(S04E12) "A man is only as sick as his secrets." - Sign at the rehab center
When hearing that Bree and Katherine wanted to team up to plan the Founders Ball, Lynette said that she, someone who faced cancer and survived a tornado, was running from the situation. When I heard the idea of Bree and Katherine working together, I wanted to do only one thing: run towards it.
If you've been reading my reviews over the past year, then it's no secret to you that Bree and Katherine are my favorite characters. I love how flawed these characters are and enjoy the performances both actresses offer us weekly. I enjoyed this week's Founders Ball storyline because it not only put Bree and Katherine against one another while they tried to plan the event, but it also brought them closer than ever. It was fun to watch both ladies present their extremely organized and complete scrapbooks, clash over the choice of flowers and other decorations, see Bree's facial expression when Mrs. Downing said that Katherine would be presenting the award, witness Bree poison Katherine in the hope she would go home so that Bree could present the award, etc. I was surprised that Bree didn't put two and two together when she learned she wouldn't be presenting the award. Bree is all about appearances so why not think that the reason she wasn't presenting was because she was the recipient?
Even if I love watching Bree and Katherine bicker and be on opposite sides, I'm looking forward to them trying to be friends. It was touching to see the sworn enemies open up, especially hearing Bree explain that she is friends with people that are not totally like her (Gaby is glamorous, Susan is adorable, Lynette is smart, Edie is Edie) and that she didn't know how to be friends with Katherine because the two of them were made out of the same mold. Bree and Katherine teaming up will be interesting to watch. Alone, both ladies are already forces to be reckoned with so imagine them as a duo!
"A man is only as sick as his secrets." That applied to Mike, Orson and Tom this week. Mike, who is still in rehab, asked Orson for forgiveness. This set up the stage for Orson to finally spill the beans and admit that he is the one who ran Mike over. Of course, before Orson asks for Mike's forgiveness, the man needed to reach the bottom of the barrel or be put against the wall with nowhere to hide. "In Buddy's Eyes" paved the way to just that. Orson's secret started to eat him alive and make him sick. The man started sleep waking and mumbling at the same time. Susan was quick to accept Orson's explanation for his "I'm sorry Mike" lines but Julie overheard the complete version of the secret ("I'm sorry Mike. I'm sorry I ran you over Mike.") and it's more than likely that she won't be able to keep it to herself. So I expect Orson to have to come clean before the end of the season. It's about time this storyline be wrapped since Orson ran over Mike eons ago!
As for Tom, it was pretty much a given that Rick's reappearance would have bad memories resurface but I didn't think that he was still suffering from what happened between Rick and Lynette. Hearing Tom say that Rick changed the way he looks at Lynette was just heart breaking. After he spoke those words, I felt bad for both Tom and Lynette. Keeping these feelings inside for months must have been a nightmare for Tom. As for Lynette, hearing that your husband is looking at you differently must be really painful to hear. I sure hope Marc Cherry has a happy ending written for those two because they are one of my favorite TV couples nowadays and it would be a bad idea to break them up.
Tom admitted that he threw the brick but is he the one who set Rick's restaurant on fire? Could Rick be behind it? After all, Rick wants Lynette and if the police find out that Tom threw the brick then maybe they'll assume Tom burned the place down. And if Rick planted some evidence to point the finger at Tom, maybe the latter will be sent to jail. So Lynette would be alone to take care of a family and the restaurant. In comes Rick to help! You can bet that "CSI: Fairview" will be all over that crime scene next week! Have a different theory? Let your voice be heard in comments.
Other tidbits of interest:
- 61.8% of readers who voted in our poll last week thought that the Carlos' blindness was boring. I have to agree. This week, the storyline wasn't any better. The jokes were not that great and the scenes didn't offer anything new: Gaby is high maintenance and loves Carlos a lot.
- I was surprised to see that Susan, Bree, Gaby, and Lynette (although she didn't sit down for the meal) had a lunch date with Edie and Katherine. I know they try to be civil towards one another but set a lunch date to chit-chat?
- "Well, it's official, I'm going to hell." - Gaby
- A mystery man circles Dylan in a picture printed in the news paper. My bets are that this man is her not-so-dead father.

Naked orson was awesome! I'm glad he's sorry for what he's done... I;m sure Mike will forgive him, after all he's no saint.
i also agree that it was heartbfreaking when Tom told Lynette the whole Rick thing changed the way he looked at her. i always knew that after the whole cancer and tornado thing they never had the chance to openly discuss this situation and analyze why Lynette felt attracted to Rick in the first place. i sure hope they can solve this situation and I'm sure tom didnt set Rick's place on fire.

The Scavo menaces totally set that fire. That's why we saw them overhearing Lynette and Rick's argument. Evil little bastards!
This episode was FANTASTIC. Waaaay better than last week, funny and touching, dark and light, the perfect blend we've come to expect from DH.

Let's be more specific. The Scavo kids set the fire at Rick's but Kayla was the mastermind behind getting the Scavo boys to actually do it.
That mystery man is Office Space's O-SO-FUNNY man Gary Cole. Expect some more scenes with him next week.
Was it me or was even the naked Orson thing a little boring? Like amnesia happening to people, sleepwalking naked is just as unusual, so to see that in a storyline is just boring because you know the only reason it is there is to be the vehicle to bring his confession out. It's boring and anticlimactic.
Lastly, I'm a guy, so this may just be me, but I sorta wanted to see Julie and Dylan make out because they were looking pretty hot in those dresses. Am I alone in that....

This episode was chilling in some respects. I enjoyed Orson's sleepwalking and thought it was a creative way for admitting his guilt. I'm wondering if Bree will leave him when she finds out the truth. Do you think Mike will press charges? Or can he even? Is that too late?
On the subject of who set Rick's place on fire, I believe it was the children. I know that sounds out there, but think about it... the kids saw their parents fighting. They looked really upset when they saw it. Maybe, just maybe, the kids (especially Kayla) thought if they got rid of Rick's restaurant their parents would stop fighting. Any thoughts?

By the way, John, I'm glad to see you and I agreed on that. And also, that I'm not the only male fan of Desperate Housewives. LOL!

I think Tom is an idiot. Lynette did nothing wrong with Rick. The guy helped save the restaurant. Yes, he flirted with Lynette. Women like to be treated like women. Tom treated her like a wife. When Lynette found out Rick liked her, she fired him. And now Lynette is recovering from cancer. A little flattery was a good thing for her. She wasn't going to have an affair. Tom is acting like a child. Does he not trust his wife? Just who was cheating in this family? Tom. So, is HIS guilt making him a jerk?

The Scavo brats totally set that place ablaze. I bet it was the girl's idea.
Felicity Huffman has never looked hotter than that restaurant scene. I kept looking at her wondering who she was.

I, too, am finding the Gabby/Carlos story boring. However, it was a bit refreshing to see Gabby show a softer side and express her real love for Carlos. Usually she's mean or shallow, but there was some real depth to her emotion. Was glad to see it.

Am I missing something? Doesn't Mike already know that Orson ran him over? When he was blackmailing him for pills didn't Mike tell Orson something like "I need the pills because of my back pain ... which I got because someone ran me over ... hint, hint". I thought that implied Mike already knew and was using it to get the pills.

good catch on the Scavo kids; i never thought of that. i was thinking it was some well devised plan by Rick (insurance or otherwise).
i liked the Gaby/Carlos storyline this week. seeing Gaby close to tears... that was the best "acting" Eva has done on this show in a while.
Mike doesnt know Orson ran him over. he never blackmailed Orson. he guilted Adam, Katherine's husband, to give him the pills when he overheard Adam talking to his past lover. Adam, in turn, blackmailed Orson for the pills, since Adam delivered Danielle's baby and knows their secret of raising it as their own.

Yea... I never thought about it being the kids either... but now that you mention it....
I find the Carlos thing boring too, but I loved the way Gabby felt about the parking sticker and the toothpaste. She does love Carlos. (And I agree fine acting there on the part of Eva)

I, too, never thought it would be the Scavo kids who set Rick's place on fire....oh good one!!!! I def think it was the kids...but wonder if Tom did have anything to do w/ it since he showed up to the award ceremony late.
Ugh....last night episode made me hate Gabby even more. I cannot stand her and the way she was treating Carlos. I was applauding those men in the wheelchair for cornering her...too bad she didnt get in trouble for it...She's definately going to hell!
I loved the scene where Bree was talking bac about Katherine only to get the spotlight on her for the award. I never saw that coming! Do you think those two really could be friends?

OK, I am hoping Tom set the fire and that he gets caught. I only wish the children could have beeen IN the restaurant. Tom has always treated Lynette like crap and those children are breathing posters for birth control. Of course, I also hoped that Tom and the children would have died in the tornado... apparently there is no God.

Really good catch about the Scavo kids. I didn't think of them setting the restaurant on fire because I expected them to be under supervision while their parents were at the ball. But then again, the kids, especially the twins, are known to escape parental supervision pretty quickly!

Gaby lunching with Edie and acting like nothing happened with regard to Carlos was strange. Was it a case of "convenient script writer's amnesia"? Gaby's altercations with the guys in the wheelchair were funny. A bit stupid, but funny. It possibly falls into the category of "Things people think but would never do", as TV characters often personify people's thoughts. It was farcical, as Gaby's character tends to be.
The fire was the Scavo kids. I feel like I knew this already, as if I read that in TV Squad spoilers or something, or like it had already happened.
I look forward to more Bree and Katherine too. Was "mystery man" Dylan's bio-dad or a red herring to make us think so? Someone connected to him?
Felicity Huffman looks like she's been working out. Have her arms been that toned for awhile or does Lynette not usually wear short sleeves?

I loved Gaby's rant about the toothpaste. It seems lame on the surface but it happens that way in real life. It's exactly how I sometimes react in a fight with my hubby! When bottled up feelings finally explode, you tend to aim them on small things that actually signify big things.
I know that many of us hate Susan. But don't you think Desperate Housewives wouldn't be Desperate Housewives without her antics? =)
Don't get me wrong. My fave character is Bree. And I'll say it again, her facial expressions are priceless!
