Set your DVRs, friends, because USA and USA HD will begin re-airing the first season of what I consider one of last years most overlooked, good new shows, Burn Notice. In fact, the pilot episode starts airing tonight at 11:00 PM ET, but if you miss that you can catch it at 2:30 AM. Or Sunday at 10 AM. Or later, at midnight. Oh, and then there's the DVD set coming out in June. In other words, no excuses!I just finished catching up with this show a couple of weeks ago with Deb, and I'm glad I did. Joel recently had a quick interview with Jeffrey Donovan of Burn Notice, who mentioned how, even if you have no idea what the show is about, every episode starts with a very brief "what this show is about" montage that should set anyone straight. Still, if you haven't checked the series out yet, give at least the first couple of episodes a shot.
[Thanks Gordon!]

i think the problem with this show is that no one, me included, knows what its about. I find it amusing that you bring that up but still dont give us any idea what the show is about.

yes you point out that i can tune in to watch a montage at the begining of the show that explains everything but at this point i am not going to tune in to watch that explanation. Why? Because i have no idea what this show is about.

A quick rundown from Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burn_Notice):
The title refers to the burn notices issued by intelligence agencies to discredit or announce the dismissal of agents or sources who are considered to have become unreliable. The television series is a first-person narrative (including frequent stream of consciousness voice-overs providing nuggets of esoteric exposition) from the viewpoint of covert-operations agent Michael Westen, played by Jeffrey Donovan.
After fleeing a Nigerian operation blown apart by the sudden and unexplained non-cooperation of his U.S. contact, Westen finds himself in his hometown of Miami, Florida, attended to by his ex-girlfriend but abandoned by all his normal intelligence contacts, under continuous surveillance, and his personal assets frozen. Extraordinary efforts to reach his U.S. government handler eventually yield only a grudging admission that someone powerful wants him "on ice" in Miami; if he leaves the city he will "heat up fast", i.e., he will be hunted down and taken into custody, whereas by staying there he can remain relatively free. Consumed by the desire to find out why he's been burned, and by whom, he goes to work as an unlicensed private investigator and freelance spy for anyone in town who can pay him any money in order to fund his personal investigation into his own situation as a blacklisted agent.

I knew this wasn't a Toomey post the minute I saw the excerpt in my RSS reader. How?
1. It's a good show that...
2. The reviewer *liked*.
Everyone should watch Burn Notice. It's all the style and cool of the TV world of Miami (mostly the glamor bits, very little seediness), with guns and spies and agents thrown to the wind to fend for themselves, mix in a little A-Team "help the unfortunate" and Bruce Campbell as a thickening, drunken Lothario who still pulls ladies like a college kid with a trust fund. How can that not be made of win?
Good show, tight writing, well shot, well directed. A nice fun show - with guns. And car chases.

Here's an even quicker rundown: Picture the humor and everyman quality of "The Rockford Files" or "Magnum, PI" mixed with the creativity and gadgets of "MacGyver". A spy (currently an ex-spy) is stuck in Miami and makes a living helping innocent people get out of criminal situations by using his skills as an operative. He's got a hot girlfriend, a funny and mostly loyal friend, and a difficult mother to deal with. Everyone's attractive, Miami looks gorgeous, and the show is a LOT of fun.

Rockford meets MacGyver. Great description.
And I just want to say again, Campbell is freaking *great* on this show. If you've ever liked the guy in anything, you'll love him in Burn Notice. He's actually *acting* in this show, something he hasn't always done.

Scott, you nailed it. It's like a cool version of Rockford files for today. One of the best shows to come around in a long time.
