Robert Buckley: In the Limelight

Robert BuckleyGood chemistry between TV couples is a rare commodity, but when Robert Buckley and Kim Raver heat up the screen as Kirby and Nico on Lipstick Jungle, there's some major fireworks flying around.

Much of that spark can be attributed to Buckley, who inhabits the role of Kirby so well that it hardly seems like he's playing a part. Buckley took over the role from Will Toale, who played the part in the pilot episode.

The 26-year-old actor really hasn't been on the TV scene all that long. He got his start playing two roles on MyNetworkTV prime time dramas: photographer Michael Bauer on 2006's Fashion House; and Matthew Wakefield on 2007's American Heiress.

He also landed a few roles in indie flicks, including When a Killer Calls, Teenage Drama, and Petrified. Upcoming in 2008 is the feature film Killer Movie, in which Buckley stars with Kaley Cuoco of 8 Simple Rules fame, and a straight-to-DVD flick called Robot Battle.

Buckley didn't set out to be an actor, but rather, earned an economics degree from the University of California at San Diego. He worked as an economic consultant for a year and a half before moving to L.A. to hit the casting call circuit.

About his job, he told the hosts of That's So Hollywood (TSH) last year, "I hated it. It was like Office Space, but not funny."

With his boyish charm and bedroom eyes, it's easy to see why Nico fell for him, especially given the fact that she's not getting much at home from her older-guy husband -- who landed in the hospital with a heart attack on the mid-season finale.

But like every other actor out there, Buckley had to jump through a few hoops to snag a major TV role. He told TSH that one of his first auditions was for, uh, some interesting swimwear.

"It was the most ridiculous swimwear you've ever seen," he said. "It was these see-through speedos, fishnet boy shorts really, the most awkward 30 minutes of my life."

He bolted from the audition, and it's just as well. Who knows where he might have landed had he taken the job. Maybe in some strip club instead of getting down and dirty with Nico on Lipstick Jungle. That just wouldn't be right.
