Every time I see an image of Rob Thomas I can't help but think, "man, that is one huge neck." Sorry, just had to get that out of the way.It turns out that the aforementioned tight-tie-wearing director/producer/writer has decided to pass on heading the Beverly Hills, 90210 spinoff series to concentrate more on a couple of other projects, one of which we've already mentioned before: Cupid and Good Behavior. Thomas will still be involved with the spinoff show, but only as an executive producer. In fact, the script for the series is being totally rewritten by Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah from What About Brian (Update: They also wrote for Freaks & Geeks and Undeclared). In a nutshell, fans of Rob Thomas won't likely be feeling the Rob Thomas-ness in this series.
This isn't the first time in recent history that Thomas has stepped down from a new series. The same thing happened with Miss Guided last year, though it's unclear if that show has suffered at all from his departure.

Hopefully this version will be a bit more realistic. Didn't those guys do Life As We Know It?

I wonder if his decision has anything to do with his inability to draw Kristen Bell into the series. Now that the What About Brian scribes are doing the script we can be assured that the show will be now be down to the proper level of junk that the original 90210 was.

Noooo!!!! My only reason for wanting to watch the new show is because I hated BH 90210 in its heyday (but felt compelled to follow it b/c there weren't any other teen shows, then) & looked forward to re-watching it with intelligent dialogue so I wouldn't feel as if I wasted my adolescence. Well, if RT is ExProd and the guys dealing with F&G/Und are involved, perhaps it won't be so bad . . .
