Funnyman Albert Brooks cast on Weeds

Albert BrooksOne of the funniest guys in show business is coming to TV; and not just voices like he's done on The Simpsons. E! News has reported that Albert Brooks will appear in four episodes of Weeds for in the upcoming season. The Showtime comedy returns with new episodes beginning June 16.

Albert Brooks -- whose real name is Albert Einstein (and his brother is comic Bob Einstein, aka Super Dave Osborne) -- has been making people laugh for nearly four decades. I distinctly remember his bits on Love, American Style and his hilarious films on Saturday Night Live circa 1975.

Those movies led to features like Real Life, Modern Romance, Lost In America and Defending Your Life, among others. He is the epitome of the word droll. I even liked his last film, which tanked in the box office -- Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World. And he was brilliant as the voice of Marlon in Finding Nemo. It will be fantastic to see what he brings to the already fascinating Weeds, already a smart, funny, idiosyncratic show.

He'll show up as Nancy's (Mary-Louise Parker) father-in-law. As viewers know, it was the unexpected death of Len's son, Judah, that forced Nancy into the line of work she's been pursuing -- dealing marijuana throughout her suburban neighborhood. Of course, now that she's torched her place, the story will be going into a new direction. According to Showtime, in the new season, Nancy and her family will move to the fictional beach town of Ren Mar on the San Diego/Mexico border. They plan to start over, but don't expect them to give up the business. Instead, the new locale opens doors for many new opportunities.
