You've heard of Ryan Seacrest, right? Well, one of the most reliable news source in the world, The Globe, tells us now that the folks behind Live are courting Ryan Seacrest to replace Regis Philbin on their morning staple. It makes perfect sense. Consider that Regis, who turns 176 this year, has racked up more hours on television than anyone in history, but now has announced he'll be cutting back his television work to three days a week. Then we have Ryan, who can be seen and heard everywhere from his work on E! to American Idol to New Year's Rockin' Eve to his radio show to American Top 40. Maybe he'd give up his morning radio gig for a morning TV gig. Or maybe record one during the commercial breaks of the other.I almost missed this story, though, because that same issue of The Globe promised to show me how to win the Lottery and I'm busy spending all the money I'm gonna win! So for now, we'll say the rumor's unsubstantiated but if the Weekly World News or The Onion picks it up, then it's official!

Seacrest has drive and ambition to spare. But does the word "overexposure" mean nothing to this guy?

Sorry to break this to you, but the Weekly World News went out of business months ago, so they won't be reporting anything about this story. It's a shame, because I bet Seacrest would have been great friends with Bat Boy and could have interviewed Elvis.

From the title, I was afraid this story had something to do with THE OFFICE spinoff.

So he's replaced both Dick Clark and Casey Kasem, and now he's looking to take over for Regis? Wow. He's come a long way since Gladiators 2000.

This rumour has only been going on for at least 2 years. Nice to see you finally picked it up.

That would bring that show to a screeching halt!!!! There are so many other great co-hosts out there to be with Kelly, including her husband, Pat Sajak and others, who I can't think of - we don't need some Fox stuntcasting to come to ABC in the morning!

This guy won me over with his scene in Knocked Up.
On the other side, that might be the only thing I've ever seen him in, as I do not watch E!, I've never seen American Idol, I'm never near TVs on New Years', etc. I've just never been exposed to him. I always just knew him as "that douchy ambiguous guy" by word of mouth.
But his willingness to mock himself in Knocked Up won some points with me.

I hope not I am not really a fan of Ryan. But I hope it is Jeff probst instead. When ever He is on Live with Regis and Kelly He does a great job. The bad part though He would not be on Survivor and more. But He has said in the past He wants to do some thing else.
I guess I had better make it on that show soon before He is gone then.

(Oy, I had to hit mute to post this, with TWO movie ads on the page both playing audio automatically, slightly out of sync with each other, and neither responding to the Flash "Pause" or "Sound Off" controls. I E-mailed TV Squad about this last night but they haven't done anything about it, so if I'm not around to follow up, it'll be because I tried a page tomorrow and it still blasted me out of my chair with no way to stop it.)
There's a semi-serious logistical problem in this rumor: the Regis show comes live out of WABC in New York City at 10AM ET on weekdays, and Seacrest has to be in Hollywood for American Idol and his E! network duties.
The show is owned by Buena Vista Television (read "Disney"), so theoretically they could move the show to Los Angeles, but that would require, well, moving the entire show to Los Angeles—moving the producers, laying off the crew, hiring a new crew, and so on. Kelly Ripa isn't doing All My Children anymore, but if they want Regis on the show even part-time, they'd have trouble moving it to L.A.
Seacrest can't do his other gigs from New York easily, either. He can do a radio show from anywhere, if he wants, but the 5AM-10AM PT slot maps to 8AM-1PM ET, which would rule out doing it at the same time as Live. He could probably do some of the E! work from NYC, but he'd have to be in Hollywood at least three days a week from February through Memorial Day for Idol, not to mention the various audition trips around the country, and I don't see FOX or 19 moving Idol to New York City to accommodate Seacrest. "You're going to midtown!" doesn't have the same ring.
Sufficient amounts of money and determination could overcome most of these obstacles, but that's what it would take. Seacrest couldn't drop this into his other gigs and make it work without either Live or everything else he does moving across the country.

Presumably, it would be Live with Kelly & Ryan, not the other way around. It's the 21st century -- boys don't automatically go first.

Believe me it wasn't a matter of boys always going first, but keeping the name similar so it would be more recognizable. It was Regis & Kathy then Regis & Kelly. Ryan & Kelly would keep the now familiar Kelly at the end and the 'R&K' flow the same. Of course they could switch it if they wanted, I just left it that way so it would be slightly more recognizable.

Ryan is a tool.
If American Idol viewers could have chosen a host, Dunkelman would have won.
Seacrest Out!
