I guess if Venezuela had a choice, it would be David Hasselhoff over Homer Simpson. A Venezuelan TV channel has yanked episodes of The Simpsons from their network with the reasoning that the show is "inappropriate for children." It's replacement? Baywatch: Hawaii. The show was being broadcast at 11 A.M. daily. My first question is: shouldn't the kids be in school in the first place? Granted, I'm unaware of how the Venezuelan school system works. Probably not very well if the kids are home at 11 A.M.
What really gets me about this story is that it's not even early Baywatch. It's Baywatch: Hawaii (which is really Baywatch in its tenth and eleventh seasons when the series was really on the decline). The Hoff wasn't even in the final season.
I can almost see the educational value of the switch. The bikini-clad women in Baywatch: Hawaii will enable the kids to learn to count to two.

i dunno how is it exactly un USA, but here in Latin America (the other L.A. :P) is very common for a school to have 2 shifts: 9 to 12 and 13 to 16. Kids who attend to school in the second shift usually are at home at 11, probably surfing channels.

I think I can help you out a bit. I'm from Venezuela, even though I now live in Memphis. This whole "inappropriate" for the kids thing, refers to a law that now has place back there where shows have to be classified according in categories of health, sex, violence. And it is assumed that anything during the day can be watched by children.
Yes I am aware of how ridiculous and insane this is, but if you knew the president you'd understand.
Venezuelan tv is horrible anyway, it consist of badly translated, bad soap operas and maybe one or 2 semi-good national productions.

The government made the ruling that made televen yank it (and everyone knows how televen stand in regards to the government).
As for the law it states if I'm not mistaken that between 6:00 am and 7:00 pm all programming has to be kid friendly, although I think Baywatch is less kid friendly that the simpsons.

There are times and rulings from the FCC when this statement could easily be applied to the United States without changing a word.
