Jeremy Piven was unavailable this time around, busy as he is playing Ari in Entourage, so writer/producer Rob Thomas went in another direction. Taller, by four inches. Thomas has chosen Bobby Cannavale for the title role in Cupid for ABC.Cannavale, an Emmy-award winner for his guest turn on Will & Grace as Vince, will be Trevor Hale in Cupid. He's described as manic and charming and firmly believing in the fact that he is the real Roman god of love, Cupid. His mission is to make 100 love matches so he can earn the right to leave Earth and return to Mount Olympus. ABC is behind this new pilot, an updated version of Thomas' 1998 Cupid that didn't make it past season one.
Bobby, by the way, is doing an arc on Cold Case, beginning this Sunday as narcotics detective Eddie Saccardo, a possible love interest for Lily (Kathryn Morris). Sounds like the Cupid casting means Lily's not meant for a long-term love affair. Guess she'll have to take comfort in her pussycat -- again. Unless Cupid never makes it out of the pilot stage, which is not unheard of. Last season, Cannavale did a pilot called M.O.N.Y. that went nowhere.

Why does ABC think this show will work when it wasn't able to find an audience with the incomparable Jeremy Piven in the starring role? Don't get me wrong, I actually loved the show the first time around. I thought Piven and Paula Marshall had fantastic chemistry. Unfortunately, I was one of the very few. I wish Rob Thomas luck. He's going to need it.

I'm not watching any new shows anymore! So I don't give a shit about who they cast for what show, which channel, which writers, what producer, when it's on, where it's shot, why it's supposed to be so good, or how good it supposedly is - I won't be watching because it is just gonna get cancelled in less than 2 years anyway (probably less than 6 weeks these days) so what's the damn point in wasting my time with it?

piven is better known but certainly not hotter than the new one. I never saw piven in the role but when i compare looks - the bobby c. wins hands down.
