According to Scifi Wire, the NBC show Heroes has been given a return date of September 15th of this year. However, the proposed spin-off series titled Heroes: Origins has been canceled before it was even broadcast. As they have done with many shows, NBC plans to kick off the new season by showing a one-hour clip show. This will be followed by a two-hour season premiere. That's three hours of Heroes in one night. That's enough to cause a brain aneurysm for the more ardent Heroes fans.
While I'm excited for the third season (in which our protagonists will fight their equivalent of the Legion of Doom), I am sorry to hear that Origins was scrapped. They had some real talent behind that spin-off, including Kevin Smith, Eli Roth and Michael Dougherty.
This past season of Heroes wasn't as good as the first. This was partially, I believe, because of the "sophomore slump" that affects many series and partially because of the writers' strike. With that in mind and since the production team has had plenty of time to relax and think about it, I think the third season will be a significant step up.

Are you kidding? I'm already excited.
With things coming down the pipeline like Knight Rider, I think Heroes place is very safe. Especially with Tim Kring admitting S02 sucked, hopefully they pour some money into it and bring their A-Game.

They don't need to pour money in, they just need to be willing to go new places with the characters and not retreading the same crap.

Frankly I am glad that they canceled Origins. They need to focus on the original series.

Dang, that sucks. With the talent they had lined up, like you said, even if none of the characters highlighted made it to the regular cast (I realize this was not the plan), we could have ended up with a spin-off series (if one was so good it served as an unintentional backdoor pilot) or perhaps even a spin-off movie! Just saying. I hope they change their minds, because Origins was a really cool idea and pretty revolutionary for television.

Wasn't "Origins" cancelled a week after the WGA strike began?

It was canceled for this year after the strike, but I don't believe it was called off entirely.

I am glad that Origins will not see the light of day. I would rather they focus the writing talent on Heroes instead. I was never a fan of retro active continuity. The writers always miss or change something that doesn't jive with present continuity.
I prefer we find out about how things were with the previous generation with revelations from the older characters or short visits in the past by Hiro.
