Last night, we saw the Top 10 perform on American Idol and I realized something: I'm bored. A lot of reality shows get this way during March and April. There are still a bunch of contestants left, but it's pretty obvious who is not going to be crowned the champion. Let's face it, these people aren't going to win:- Ramiele
- Syesha
- Chikezie
- Michael Johns
- Kristy Lee Cook
- Carly Smithson
- Jason Castro
I'm also feeling this way about America's Next Top Model -- only, it is still a "must watch" for me because of the photo shoots. Idol, on the other hand, needs to start throwing some curve balls at the remaining contestants. The songs they're choosing are too safe. Even Brooke was boring last night with her piano and The Police. It's time for Disco Week! Nobody does well during disco week. Wouldn't you like to see David Archuleta attempt an ABBA song? Or Jason Castro sing The Bee Gees?

I think part of the problem is what they tried to fix. They are emphasizing talent and the contestants this year, when what really made last year so great was the trainwrecks that came out on stage. I mean who doesn't remember Sanjaya or Halley? And who doesn't remember how much fun it was to hate them?
Sure we have KLC now, but she'll be gone within two weeks. The only real trainwrecks we have are David Cook and his short-bus hairstyle, and that just isn't fun.

I'd totally agree... This is the first season of American Idol I've watched (only tuned in because of the writer's strike) and for the past few weeks I've been thinking they should just give the win to David Cook and end it all now. Seriously, most of them just bore me silly and no one even comes close to the talent of David Cook.

I was bored after the stripper left, and then more bored when the dumb blonde didn't leave last week.
I hardly even watched it last night. Next time I might just wait for the YouTube videos to go up.

Everyone should keep in mind that Melinda and Lakeesha were the early favorites last year but neither won the competition. There may be some surprises in store for us this year as well.
It's not so important to me who wins the competition. I enjoy watching many of the performances and guessing which contestants have potential to do well in the music industry. I felt that Clay Aiken would do better after AI than Rueben. I felt that Chris Daughtry was the best of season five. I really didn't care who won last year. None of the contestants had all the elements necessary to sustain a music career.
This year there are several contestants that have the total package - talent, artistry, and looks (yes, looks do matter in the music industry). David C is the cream of the crop but Michael, Carly, Brooke, and David A all have star potential. David A. is not my kind of musician but he certainly appeals to preteens and their grandmas.
The question is, if you find AI boring then why watch it? I don't waste my time watching boring shows.

I have to admit, I've been bored all season. I have a choice now on Tuesdays: AI or DTWS results show and DTWS wins every time ... AI just isn't that interesting anymore. Even with my DVR, I don't find myself all that interested in watching AI later ...

Now Anna, either you're claiming that all those in your list won't win because of some unfair advantage someone else has, or you're smoking crack!
Michael Johns and Carly Smithson not only have what it takes to win, they are nearly in a league of their own. In fact, Carly seems to like she's being judged more harshly then any of the other contestants.
However, I do agree, a few curve balls would be nice.

I'm going to really enjoy it when this season wraps up and one of the contestants on your list is crowned the winner.
It's always fun watching someone else eat crow.

I absolutely agree, I'm more interested than Dancing with the Stars than this American Idol. Everyone on DWTS actually look like their having fun. I am bored out of my mind most of the time, these contestants don't take any risks anymore and they ones that do aren't that popular. David Archeluta is the most boring one out of everybody and he's the most popular one for some reason. Just give the title to David Cook so we can end this damn show.

Personally, I think Anna should leave the AI articles to Jason. This article was way more boring than any of the shows I've seen so far!

I gotta disagree with each of y'all.
First, to Joe, Haley was a talented performer. I will agree she didn't have that "big voice" that other AI contestants have. But she and Gina Glocksen owned any stage they were on.
Sanjaya really ruined it for me. Each time I saw him all stoned and stuff, and then when he'd open his yap and burp out a song, well I found a new way to retch and vomit.
All the singers in the TOP 24 this year were talented. Some just didn't have good song choice (Amy Davis) or didn't have good stage presence (Kady Malloy).
Chikezie is a great performer and a good singer. I like how he changes things up. Brooke is probably the best of them (at least for me). David A has a good voice, as long as he sticks to one thing.
But all this years 24 were good singers. Unless you just wanna watch train wrecks like Sanjaya that is.

Four weeks ago people were saying they should just crown David A. and end the season. And now some people are saying David C. has this ALL sown up and thus should just give him the win.
AI is rarely this black and white. And anything can happen in the next 10 weeks or so. Heck four weeks from now we can all be talking about how Kristy Lee Cook is suddenly the front runner with the sudden and shocking elimination of the Davids, Brooke, and Michael.
Now THAT would really suck.

Folks refuse to see that all of this is bascially the same thing. Ramiele is now the new Sanjaya. Picking up all the votes in Hawaii and in all the large Pacific Asian Island places in the U.S. Chikeze was never going to win, but i would have loved to have seen him go farther. Syeesha doesn't have a chance because she just doesn't have the kind of personality that makes you want to vote for her, even with her great pipes and lungs too.

Bring Back Double-Elimination
I agree, and I think the contestants would too, I think they're getting performance fatigue. We're certainly getting Idol fatigue ! They should do double-eliminations each week until they get to the Top 5. That would benefit everyone involved.

Don't like American Idol? Don't watch it! This isn't rocket science and if it bores you, why can't you find something else to do? All you people want to do is complain about something or somebody and I'm bored with that! At least the contestants are trying to do something with their lives and talent (or lack of it). Maybe you bored viewers should try reading a book!
