Voting last night set a record for the season with an impressive 30 million votes coming in. Tonight's medley was a preview of what the tour will bring, with the Top 10 dancing and singing just as awkwardly as every other group performance. Maybe they should get Paula to choreograph these things. Can you believe Ramiele is again sporting the off-the-shoulder look? And Jason Castro was having way too much fun with this number; disturbingly so. "Hey guys, if you are supposed to wave one arm up, I'm going to flail both of my arms and jump around in a circle. Cool?" But in the end, Carly was the one who fell over trying to keep her balance. These things are a disaster, does anyone truly like them?
We got some background information on the iTunes tracks. I didn't know that they were re-recorded in a studio, and that they got to sing the full version of the song rather than the bastardized minute-and-a-half version we get to see on the show. Man, that makes the iTunes downloads almost worth it in some case. I'm totally downloading Kristy Lee Cook's "God Bless the USA." And I'm not believing for a minute that Carly isn't familiar with the boards in the studios considering she's already recorded a major album. And she also wouldn't be getting a huge kick out of seeing a single by her either. She's recorded a music video for cripe's sake! Of course, one iTunes single of hers has probably sold 100x what her album did.
FORD COMMERCIAL - "I Want You to Want Me"
What I can't believe is that Ford is three-for-three in commercials that are actually pretty good. This was the best one yet, with the contestants singing from shirts and posters and CD covers. Simple and effective. There's got to be a whole new team putting these together this year.
KIMBERLY LOCKE - "Fall"
She came in third behind the one-two juggernaut punch of Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken back in Season 2. She found success after the show recording a debut album and enjoying a modest hit with the single "8th World Wonder." After that run, she partnered in opening a steakhouse. She's lost forty pounds and has more confidence than ever before. And now she's on her second album, Based on a True Story. She looked great tonight and while the song didn't blow me away, she was every bit as great a vocalist as she was on her Season 2 run. If this girl had been on last year she probably could have run away with the whole thing.
LIVE PHONE CALLS
Chikezie - "You have such a great personality ... I was wondering if you are single?" He is. If he gets eliminated tonight, he'll even have the time to date.
David A. - "Why did you choose to sing 'You're the Voice'?" It's one of his all-time favorite songs and he thinks John Farnham is amazing.
Simon - "What do I need to do to take Ryan Seacrest's job?" You don't need a lot of talent.
Brooke - "If you could do a duet with anybody you wanted to, who would it be?" For a contemporary artist, she selected John Mayer.
Simon - "Do you consider yourself the most attractive person on the show, and why?" His response: "It's now what I say, it's what other people say."
"IDOL GIVES BACK" UPDATE
$76 million raised and tonight we got to see the local impact of that money. We learn that there are 10,000 kids in after-school programs now because of your donations. 120 million meals were delivered to the poor and three new medical units have administered 4,000 much-needed immunizations. 25,000 books were donated to impoverished communities. And in response to the wildfires of last year and the tornadoes in Tennessee, food and shelter was provided to evacuated families. I can't go on enough about how wonderful a program this is and how amazing that Idol uses their "power" for such great charity.
BUILDING THE BOTTOM THREE
One by one this week, Chikezie was the first to face the firing squad. And before Ryan could say anything, Chikezie was headed to the stools where the Bottom Three would sit. And he was right to do so. Next came Brooke White who wasn't hurt at all by her false start last night. Straight into the Top 9. Carly Smithson came out next and addressed a news story that she was pregnant that broke just before the story. The story is false and she'll be back next week to continue not being pregnant.
David Archuleta and David Cook quickly found their ways to the land of eternal safety, as did Michael Johns. but the voting wasn't as kind to Syesha Mercado. I don't know how that could be, considering she had one of the stronger vocals of the night, but America just isn't connecting with Syesha. And then there's Ramiele Malubay. Despite lackluster performances week after week, she pulled out enough last night to keep herself safe.
That left the final two contestants, Kristy Lee Cook and Jason Castro. One was safe and the other not so much. Well, considering the "shock" factor that Idol loves to manufacture, you just knew it would be Jason in the bottom three.
GOING HOME
Ryan brought all three center stage and while Jason rambled on and on about how he expected to be there, Ryan had to cut him off to tell him he was safe. That leaves Chikezie and Syesha hanging on by a thread. In the end, the axe dropped and cut Chikezie from the show. Of the two of them, this is the right choice, though I don't think Chikezie got the shake he deserved on the show.
MY PICKS
I got two out of three correct on the Bottom Three; I really thought Ramiele would slip in there, making it two weeks in a row I thought she'd be there and she wasn't. At least I got smart enough to stop thinking Kristy would get cut. In fact, for the first time in several weeks, I got it right with Chikezie. That raises my season total to 6-9.
YOUR PICKS
You guys put Chikezie and Syesha down there with Carly, so that's two out of three for you as well. Now if you guys keep it up like this, I'm never gonna catch up. That's right, you put Chikezie right in elimination's way, raising your season total to a stunning 11-4. Seriously, you guys should collectively go to Vegas.

Chikezie had real potential. He was the guy with no experience coming into the game and he was making real progress on becoming a star. So he had an off week that was no reason to show him the door. I could have believe Chikezie showing up among the trio in jeopardy just to remind him of what was at stake, but there’s no way he should be saying goodbye.

Chikeze got robbed tonight. However I would have to agree that it was his song choice that put him in that position. I know he wouldn't have won the whole thing, but he should have gone further. Ramiele deserved to go home.

THERE HASN'T BEEN A STRONG BLACK MALE SINGER LIKE CHIKEZE SINCE RUBEN STUDDARD. DON'T GET ME WRONG, CHIKEZE WAS NO RUBEN, BUT EVEN RUBEN COULDN'T WIN WITH SOME OF THE TALENT IN AI 7. BUT HEY, HE WILL MAKE THE TOUR AND FIND A GOOD PLACE IN THE MUSIC UNDUSTRY SOMEWHERE.

America got it wrong. Ramiele should be gone and wasn't even in the bottom three.
I agree with Simon, though: Chikezie and Syesha were victims of bad song choice this week. I just looked up the top hits of 1985, and that Luther Vandross song is nowhere to be found. Chikezie might still be in it if he had done "I Want To Know What Love Is." Or "Part-Time Lover." Or "We Belong." Or "Better Be Good To Me." Or "Suddenly." I could go on ...

I wonder if Ramiele has taken over Kristy's spot on votefortheworst.com? She's small and cute, and it's bad luck she was sick last week, but she's had a string of uninspiring weeks now and should have gone home before the "C" man. Syesha shouldn't have been in the bottom three...sometimes America DOESN'T get it right.

I liked that Chikezie guy. Had a good voice and was having fun on the stage. OK he didn't sing the best song for him. I was hoping that Ramiele would be sent home, but hey it is what it is.
Again there is alot of talent this year (Ryan Seacrest excepted) so unfortunately someone who is worthy of staying will be sent home now each week. Pretty sad though.

Hey, Ramiele is not deserving to go home. She has a very nice voice. She is just simple. And that is what filipina is...but bear in mind that filipina is a fighter....

I was disappointed to see Chickezie eliminated although it had to happen sooner or later.
As predicted Kristi Lee's song choice pulled her out of the bottom three. Unfortunately for her there aren't too many uber-patriotic songs left for her to tap into. That being said, she'll probably survive country-themed Dolly Parton week.
Sayesha has an amazing voice, perhaps the best in the competition, but she's not one of my favorites. I can't quite put my finger on why it is that I remain uninspired.
Ramiele has such a powerful voice but makes me yawn! She must have a super loyal fan base.

Damn...I hit the Enter key...
Anyway, I absolutely CANNOT believe that Ramiele hasn't been in the bottom 3 the last few weeks. How is she still in this competition? She has no personality and she can't sing very well either.
I'm sad to see Chikezie go, but like someone else said...it had to happen sooner or later.
Please America, get rid of Ramiele!

That's because she has a very good voice just like Carly. If professionals were doing their arrangements these 2 would be on top...no question about it. But it is about originality..please..Cook was REALLY BORING DOING billy jean...I just don't get this...

I was so very dissapointed to see Chikezie go and to see Ramiele stay; but this proves once again that AI is also a popularity contest and mediocre singers like Ramiele and Kristy, stay week after week based on looks. That said, I am not saying that they do not have very powerful voices, but they have zero stage presence.
Chikezie has a great personality, an electrifying stage presence and a very beautiful voice. He will do very good. History has proven that you dont need to win in AI to have success later on. Good luck to him!!

ZERO STAGE PRESENCE??
That's SO LAUGHABLE....Soul patrol Hicks had a lot of stage presence..where is he now? nowhere..cuz his voice sucks BIG TIME...More often than not those with good voices comes out on top like Underwood! You must have a great imagination when you listen to a CD? no...

After downloading and hearing the studio version of Ramiele's 'ALONE' where she recorded it prior to her loss of voice, I'm not surprised at all why she's not in the bottom 3.
Let's face it, this show is not purely technical singing competition---the producers are looking at one's talent (vocals, timing, pitch, etc.), charisma and saleability to the market. And even though Ramiele's an amateur in this game, she has great potentials. Too bad, she was sick last Tuesday. Otherwise, she wouldn't have received that "pitchy" comment from Randy which is a first for her. She's never been pitchy as far as performances go. It's always bad song choices for her but nothing wrong with her vocals and pitch. Go and check her recording and then judge for yourself why she's still in the top 9.

Bring Back Double-elimination
I liked Cheesy but he had to go at some point, just like alot of the others mentioned here. At this point almost any of the remaining singers could be dismissed. It's fascinating to watch week to week how Krista Lee Cook manages to dodge elimination. Clearly, she's the prettiest on stage but she's got no performance mojo. And I'm just tired of Carly advertising her painted arm every week, too, she's the remaining "Amanda". She'll be dismissed in the next week or two also.
Thank goodness for DVRs, though, it only took me 15 mins to spin through the 60 minute show skipping all the self-admiration fluff. I just wish they were still eliminating two contestants each week instead of drawing this out for so long, then drop to single elimination when they get to the Top 5.

Kristy Lee should have been gone LOOOOng ago. She has a range of about 5 notes and gets pitchy on the 5th one. I Cannot understand that one. Brooke White is too milk toast....I don't get it with her either...although my husband thinks she's sexy in a barbie way. I love David Cook and think his rendition of "Billie Jean" surpassed David A's incredible performace of "Imagine". Carly is very talented but won't win. I think David A will be the winner.

Personality, Originality, Performance, Arrangements...what non-sense. When I was younger and bought CD, that didn't come into play. The only thing that matters is how they sound..great voice is what eventually sells...and Carly, Michael Johns and Ramille has the best voice out of this group. If professionals where doing their arrangements these three would be on top.

Wow, so you obviously don't have very good taste in music if songwriting, creativity and authenticity don't come into play. I bet you liked New Kids on the Block and Mili Vanili and hated Nirvana and Tupac Shakur, right? Ramiele sounded good in her audition, and since then has been unable to stay on pitch. Compare her version of "Alone" to Carrie Underwood, and you'll see that there is NO comparison. Ramiele should have been gone already.
Chikezie might put out an amazing album if he does things the right way. He has a very unique sound if he takes the African Roots Music, Bluegrass and Soul sides and mixes them together. I can see him putting out a legendary album if he does that...however, if he goes the Vandross route, he'll vanish within a year. Sad to see him go, he was the most creative one on the show and he had a unique sound.
Kristy Lee Cook should have been disqualified for that song (and for her butchering of "8 Days a Week") and been long gone instead of any of the bottom three. The true bottom 3 should have been: Kristy Lee Cook, David Archuleta (ghastly was right) and Ramiele Malubay.
