After much speculation and "on the bubble" murmurs, Variety is confirming that FOX has gone ahead and renewed Prison Break, one of the more popular guilty pleasures currently on network television. Prison Break has been picked up for a possible 23 episode fourth season, set to return in the fall.
Is the show that good? Sort of. Do the plots always make sense? Sometimes. Do I love it anyway? Absolutely. After a mediocre second season, the show roared back with a pretty enjoyable third season that got cut short to thirteen episodes by the WGA strike.
The season ended with Wentworth Miller's Michael breaking out of Sona and chasing down the people responsible for the death of Dr. Sara Tancredi. I think it's safe to say that most fans would have been pretty angry if that drive off into the Panamanian sunset turned out to be the series finale.
Is this good news though? Is there really enough story to stretch out Michael's hunt for Gretchen, Whistler, and Mahone into 22-plus episodes? Plus, get ready for some overload. That female character that we never met this season? According to The Hollywood Reporter, she's still getting a spin-off after she appears. I can see the tagline already. "This Fall, prison has a new bitch."

23 Episodes?!?! I can deal with 13...hell I can deal with 18 but 23?? I love Prison Break but I don't think that it can truly be enjoyable for 23 episodes. Regardless, I'll be there for the premiere but if it's below average, I might just skip it, considering that fact that the third season was supposed to be its last.

considering how the third season ended i think all prestrike proclamations are null and void.
I agree, it would probably make more sense to just do a half season and finish off season 3. I also understand that it makes much more sense financially that if they are gonna get the whole band back together they might as well film a full season. Lets hope they go into this season with a plan and stick to it.

I'm a loyal Prison Break viewer and I'm not sure how I feel about this. I love/hate the show. I'm hooked but I can't help but feel guilty because sometimes the writing and acting are so poor. I was really hoping for just 10-13 more episodes to complete the story so I can be freed from this show. 23 sounds almost like too many. I don't a whole new storyline. On the one hand, I want this story to be brought to a resolution; but on the other, I just want this show to end. I'm glad its not ending with last season's abrupt finale, but I don't want this to be dragged on two more years. Am I the only one who feels like this?

Totally. It isn't even very good, but it keeps sucking me in. I don't even recommend it to my friends and yet I still watch it. I'll even sometimes watch it LIVE. Oh my gosh!

I thought Prison Break was supposed to be a three-season show.
Like it a lot (and I feel season 3 was strong) but they should just finish off season 3.

Great news. While I originally thought they should have ended it after 2 seasons (which I *think* was the ORIGINAL plan from the beginning), I have come to enjoy the show as one of my favorites anyway. It's a thrill-ride, and I'm glad it's coming back. I have been WAITING for Michael to go after The Company, and can't wait to see this! And whether or not this is the final season (I would guess it depends on ratings and if they even have any more story to tell), I am glad to see that we will be getting some closure (*keep fingers crossed for no more strikes!*).
BTW, who was it that was posting a little while back, insulting everyone that thought there would be another season? He was SO POSITIVE that the show wouldn't be renewed, and for some reason he was so full of himself over such a stupid issue. Guess he has egg on his face now =P

kickit: that was me, and I am happy I was wrong. Or, at least presumtively wrong... I'll believe it when they broadcast the season premiere. They may still change their mind / come to their senses, assuming this is accurate. I'm not saying I doubt Variety as a source, but it could be wrong.
I hope this doesn't mean they are going to cancel Terminator: TSCC, which is much better than PB is now. I hope it was not a 'one or the other' between the two shows and Fox deciding to (stupidly) go with PB because it is "established."
I still blame the fall of Prison Break on Sarah Wayne Callies.

Those crazy kids. My boy Sucre has to get out of there and someone has to whack T-Bag.
22 episodes is nuts...and do we really need a female spin-off? Maybe they can throw Belick in with the chicks. :D

Guilty Pleasure? I'd consider AI or DwTS such programming, but not Prison Break.
Glad to see it coming back. Now, Michael can get Gretchen, and Lincoln can get his lady.

the producers are pushing for a fourth season already?, after they left us with only 13 episodes in the third? that should be considered only "half a season" they need to to churn out 9 more to finish off the last season first and properly. how can you improve a low rated show? maybe we can send out decapatated origami paper swans with that message on it. to "get on the ball" and finish up season #3 before starting season #4. we're not ready for #4

I agree with whoever said it was a THRILL-RIDE - I love an action-packed show that always ends with an exciting twist, so that I HAVE to watch the next one! :)
I admit, I got in late - started watching in the 3rd season, and from that perspective, it looked dumb and confusing. Then I watched it from Season 1 show 1 to the very end, (and then watched all 3 seasons one more time). From that view, each show just slid into the other, and I was hooked. I thought the 2nd season was just as exciting as the first. I thought the 3rd season was stretching it a little, but the thriller-who-knows-what-will-happen-next aspect kept me watching. I definitely liked being able to watch it one show after the other, though, as opposed to waiting each week for the next episode. Then again, watching it on my DVD did mean that I stayed up waaay too late many nights and was dull at work the next morning, though...

I do like prison break and its return is a good news for me but I think it would have been better if the third season was completed. Fox should do what so ever is in their capacity to finish the third season because I have got prison break fever that can be cured by my watching the full season three.

I do love watching PB but I also think fox could have done better than it did. Leaving me with 13 episodes for season three the most fascinating season for me just leaves me with PB fever.
I love to watch season four telecasted and if that shoud be the order of the day, then the writters shoud include more flash-backs to put forward what really went on during the latter part of season three.
PB has been the best and shall forever bee. GGGOOOODDD Word done so far so good.
