Cady McClain will haunt All My Children

Cady McClainThey'll be whistling Dixie in Pine Valley again. Cady McClain is coming back to All My Children. It's not unusual for a soap favorite to return to the show where they once were a prominent player. It happens all the time. Cady has done it before, multiple times. But this time is different. This time she's coming back as a ghost!

You see, last January 2007, Dixie was killed by a serial killer. She returns now because she has a job to do, reuniting Tad with the child they thought they'd lost, Kate.

According to the ABC release, "Kate was stolen at birth, put up for adoption and now lives with Nurse Julia under the name of Kathy. Only Adam - Dixie's evil ex-husband and Tad's lifelong enemy - knows the truth that Kathy is Tad and Dixie's child. Dixie's ghost watched as Tad received a comforting hug from Kathy. It was then that Dixie realized Kathy was really her daughter. Now, with her angelic hand, Dixie will guide Tad into the loving embrace of their little girl."

Now, I know what you're thinking. If she's a ghost, how long can her return last? You'd be surprised. On General Hospital, actor Stuart Damon died on screen as Alan Quartermaine and has never left the show. He's been his sister, Tracey's, conscience. On the same show, Emily Quartermaine (actress Natalia Livingston) was murdered last year and is still actively on the show as a presence, ghost, figment of Nikolas Cassadine's mind. So, you see, on soaps -- like sci-fi -- anything is possible.

Back to Cady, she started out on All My Children, then went to CBS on As the World Turns. Then back to AMC, before another return to ATWT. And now, once more, she's returning to AMC. One thing for sure, whichever show Cady's on, she's a popular favorite. And she's won Daytime Emmys for both roles.
