Catch some concepts at the New York Auto Show!

The Daily Show: March 18, 2008

Jon StewartBefore we begin, let's talk about Stephen Colbert, because you all know I never pass up a chance to do so. He announced Monday night that The Colbert Report is hitting the road and covering the Pennsylvania primaries from Philadelphia the week of April 14. Did any of you all manage to score tickets? Despite the fact that the location will be able to seat, like, 900 people each night, the tickets ran out pretty quickly. My friend called me up in the middle of the night to tell me that I'm coming with her that Monday, which was a pleasant surprise that didn't really hit me until the next morning when I was fully awake and had the time to catch a rerun and find out what was going on. Anyway, if you'll be attending on the 14th, hunt me down in the crowd and we can be buddies. I'll be the awkward Asian girl getting dragged away by security after trying to break into Stephen's dressing room.

"The Govs Must Be Horny": After Eliot Spitzer stepped down from his gubernatorial position, David Paterson took over... and then immediately admitted to a sordid affair. And yes, his wife had to stand next to him. As for state-by-state coverage of the sexual deviousness of each governor? Oh, lord. So much sleaze. They should totally make this the Daily Show version of Colbert's "Better Know A District."

Time for a revisit to pastor Jeremiah Wright's "God damn America" deal. Barack Obama loaded up on the American flags and went before cameras to address the issue head-on. This whole segment was just perfectly done, from Jon's response to Obama to his locking desk. Jon sat down with Senior Black Correspondent Larry Wilmore for some open and awkward dialogue over race issues, sounding like an RA-mediated rommmate agreement. I loved the bonding moment over Hutch hate.

Correspondent Jason Jones took to the green streets of Manhattan on Monday, St. Patrick's Day, to figure out what the public thought about the Eliot Spitzer controversy. Naturally, it was just a lot of drunken people throwing up green beer seconds after calling Spitzer a skeevy perv. Oh, man. I was actually supposed to go to the Daily Show taping on Monday, but then I remembered that would mean having to be in New York on St. Patrick's Day. I made that mistake last year and, now that I can say I've accidentally walked into a blurry green brawl between two groups of drunk frat boys. I will never make that mistake again.

The night's guest was Jeffrey Sachs, author of Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet. This was a fairly straightforward interview, nothing spectacular. Well, I guess it was sort of spectacular how Sachs managed to hold my attention throughout the entire interview, despite the topic being economics (you say anything close to "GDP" and I shut down). He made a lot of good points for himself.

Moment of Zen: Interview anxiety or oral fixation?
