In case you don't already know, The CW is doing a contemporary update on Beverly Hills 90210 with Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars, Dawson's Creek) at the helm. This week, details were released on exactly what this spin-off is all about. And, let's just say that it already sounds like a lot of teen angst and drama. The new 90210 is centered around the Mills family, who moves to Beverly Hills from East St. Louis. The patriarch of the family is Harry, a Beverly Hills High alum who moves back to the zip code because his movie star mother has fallen off the wagon. He brings his wife, Celia (a former Olympic athlete) and two teen-age kids, Annie and Dixon, with him. The teens are the same age, 16, because Annie is a biological child and Dixon is adopted.
There are four other high school co-stars slated for the project, including brother and sister Daphne and Max Silver -- possible children of David Silver (Brian Austin Green) and Donna Martin (Tori Spelling), who married in the series finale of the original 90210. Max and Daphne live in a mansion alone because their parents have been on "a cruise" forever. Other than that last name, there is no apparent connection to the original cast or series.
And, just for a little political flavor, the population of the fictional Beverly Hills High will represent the current population of the actual school where 40% of the student population is Persian.
While I was never a huge fan of 90210, you can bet that I'll be watching this series because of who is behind it. I loved Veronica Mars, Dawson's Creek and The O.C. (not a Rob Thomas show, but still in that genre). Teen-agers with sharp tongues and larger-than-life dramas? Count me in!

And if it's Rob Thomas, you bet they'll be date rape drugs aplenty!

Unless it's some sort of alternate timeline, I don't see how Donna and David could have kids in high school yet.

Is the Mills family African American? I ask because that is the entire demographic of East St. Louis.

Will Anne have sharp sarcastic wit and carry a taser as well?

Hmm, it sounds exactly like BH 90210, the original. I was hoping they'd do something similar to 1 Tree Hills, where the actors play their actual age. You know, David working as a radio DJ, Donna/Kelly w/ their own fashion line, Andrea scorning her md and becoming the science teacher, Steve still a wanker and Brandon owning the peach pit. Or maybe it can resemble the OC where the parents/adults, aka the old 90210 cast, have their own storylines, but it doesn't take away from that of the kids i.e. the Mills -

More likely is Mel Silver's brother's kids to give an excuse for David, Donna, or Kelly to make pop-in appearances. Mel and Jackie did have a daughter Erin Silver born in at the end of Season 3 (1993) who would be about 15-16 though. Or maybe Mel had a secret second family?

Yeah, unless the show takes place several years in the future from now, the Silver characters are not David and Donna's kids--the 90210 series finale was in 2000. I don't know many 8 year olds in high school.
I assume the fact that there are characters named Silver is no coincidence, and that they are related to David--perhaps his cousins.
Of course, they could have just made one of the characters David and Kelly's little half-sister Erin Silver--she'd be in high school now (gosh, this show was on a long time ago). But I suppose then they would have to find some way to incorporate Mel and Jackie and David and Kelly and Donna at some point, so I guess it's best to make the relation a little bit more distant.

Haven't you heard, in soap opera world there is disease that affects almost every child. It is known as "rapid aging." It can hit any child at any time. It can also affect adults in their early twenties. That is how an 8 year old can go away to summer camp or boarding school and return 2 years later as a teenager or even young adult. Or how a girl decides at her 20th birthday party that she wants to be a lawyer and 6 months later has graduated from law school, passed the bar exam and working for the district attorney and trying high level cases in court.
It can very easily be that the Silver children are David and Donna's.

I really hope this means they're not going to steal Brian Austin Green from Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Not only is he doing an awesome job on that show, doing 90210 would be a huge step backwards for him as an actor in my opinion.
