So you've blown all your laundry money on TV shows from the iTunes store, because paying for a complete season at a timed seemed like a better bargain than paying $1.99 per episode. But what happens when a season is cut short due to oh, say a television writer's strike. Apple is
sending out letters to customers who have purchased season passes to shows with truncated seasons, outlining the steps the company will take to keep its paying customers from revolting:
- Even if the season should have ended now, any additional episodes that are still part of the current season will be made available to customers as soon as Apple gets them
- If there are ultimately fewer episodes in the season than originally planned, customers will get a partial refund
- At least some customers are getting credits which can be used to buy any two TV shows, music videos, or short films from the iTunes Store
All of this sounds like good news for iTunes users. But I honestly think it would have been bigger news if Apple had decided to stiff their customers.

Good to see Apple has jumped on this issue in a timely manner. I've had a lot of problems with iTunes lately. I bought a season pass for a show and then did not get the final episode - which was only available if you bought a season pass! It took about six months for them to finally figure out how to give me the missing episode - and everytime I contacted them, they apologized and issued me song credits. I pre-ordered a new album and one track was missing from the download (more issued credits so I could "buy" the track)! I love my iTunes, but I'm kind of wary about pre-ordering anything in advance. I'll get an album after it's released and I'll wait for a show to finish its season before I make a purchase. Credits are fine, but the hassle is not worth it.

I got this email yesterday. While the thought had been nagging at me to contact them to find out what was going to happen as to that $40 (or something) I blew for a season pass (assuming 22 episodes)--now that I will get at most 13--I hadn't actually gathered the gumption yet.
I was relieved to get this email, and the 2 video credit, but that "partial refund" language gives me pause. "Partial" as regards what? The total I paid for the season? What I paid for the future episodes?
Somehow I think I might still get screwed here. Hence the preemptive "2 video credit."

The last 2 Desperate Housewives episodes are still not available on iTunes and my wife is not happy! I'm still waiting for The Original Star Trek Season One episodes (remastered) from over a year ago...
Don't buy a season pass in advance. Buy single episodes or get a TiVo.
