If you've been wondering why Anderson Cooper hasn't been on his CNN show this week (I believe Soledad O'Brien has been filling in for him), it's not because he was busy spending the day with Barack Obama for a special episode that airs tonight. It's actually because he had cancer surgery on Monday.
Cooper describes on the Anderson Cooper 360 blog that "a small spot of skin cancer" was removed from under his eye. He says he wasn't even going to mention the surgery, but he still has stitches, and when he returns to the show tonight people would have noticed and he'd have to explain anyway (of course, he's probably still going to explain what's wrong, since I'm sure a lot of people don't read the 360 blog).
He also says something at the end of the blog post about not wanting viewers to think he got into a fight with Charlie Rose. He's referring to the black eye that Rose is sporting from being hit with his new MacBook Air (yup, one of those laptop black eye injuries you always hear about). What's going on with the late night hosts this week? On Monday, Letterman had a tick removed from his back shortly before the show started (actually half of it, the rest was removed after the show). Someone better keep an eye on Jimmy Kimmel.

shows you how much makeup they are wearing. I mean a melanoma has to be pitch black and you don't see him sporting any black spots on the face...

Not every skin cancer is melanoma. Quite the opposite is right - the majority of skin cancers are quite benign and easily treatable.
