"You're Not Helping: Campaign Edition": Taking a break from the Eliot Spitzer news, Jon talked about some of the least helpful campaign supporters in the Democratic race. First up, Hillary Clinton supporter Geraldine Ferraro said that Barack Obama is lucky to be who he is, because a white man with his background would not have made it this far. On the other side, Obama's supporter and pastor Jeremiah Wright got a bit too excited, threw down one of those "God damn America!"s and it was all over.Special Commentator Kristen Schaal popped up to talk about Hillary Clinton. What a surprise to see Schaal! I've absolutely loved her on HBO's Flight of the Conchords and I never would have imagined her joining the Daily Show. Although her piece was funny ("All those people are dead now..."), I don't know how much I like her as a TDS person. TDS is supposed to be a fake news show, so where does Schaal fit in? She just seems like a random comedian brought in to bring the somewhat relevant funnies... because she kind of is. Schaal is going to need to tweak her tone or at least work on her news-y delivery before I can fully accept her. Until then, I'll keep loving FotC's Mel.
The night's guest was current White House Press Secretary Dana Perino. The girl was looking super fierce in pink and her hair was so shiny, I was briefly distracted from all the ridiculous things she was saying. Briefly. It was obvious that Jon was working really hard to stay as polite as possible, but he totally wasn't buying any of it.
Moment of Zen: Joyous President Bush loves prayers!

I didn't hear Perino say anything particularly ridiculous but I agree it looked like he was going pretty easy on her. Kristen Schaal's bit was a riot.

Stewart needs to stop having guests that initimidate him, this was even worse than Hillary. If he is just going to suck up to them how is he different from real journalists?

Has anyone seen the cover of this week's Entertainment Weekly? It calls SNL "TV's Funniest and Most Influential Political Player."

I'm happy to see Kristen anywhere on TV. You may be right that her talents aren't the best fit for the Daily Show. I remember when the most important thing for the show was to be funny/entertain. Those days are long gone.
Maybe Steve Carrell is making enough for both of them, she's happy being a mom or she's just not interested in going back but I thought Nancy Walls was great on TDS when she was on.
A semi regular Kristen appearance would be very welcome, however tangential.

Schaal on TDS is much like Demetri Martin. I even found their delivery to be similar... and their looks. I like this. I don't really mind that they're not necessarily in character, because they're funny.

I don't think she has to change anything, she's not going to be a reporter, she's a special commentator like Lewis Black. Though, John Hodgman and Larry Wilmore tend to be in serious newsman character when they're on.
