Reaper: Hungry for Fame

A Year at the Top(S01E11) "Now, run, rabbit." - Sock

Nothing like starting the second half of the season with a bang, even if it was only from a BB gun. I have to be honest, if Reaper wasn't already on my DVR's schedule, I probably would have forgotten to watch it. More importantly, if I hadn't been reminded by my blogging buddy Brett, I would have missed the review as well. Once again, technology has made me a better TV viewer.

I wasn't too crazy about Sock's hangup with his Mom's new husband. Am I the only one a little creeped out by the Oedipal implications? I guess that would help explain why Sock had that sex dream about Gladys a few episodes back.

I, generally, don't enjoy watching holiday episodes that air so much later than the actual holiday. Here in California, it's 69 and sunny, which makes the Christmas stuff feel a bit out of place. It's the same way I feel when I watch the Halloween episodes of The Simpsons in reruns.

I was wondering when we were going to see the devil doing some of his other work. I mean, I don't need to see the torturing and stuff like that but he is the Prince of Lies, after all, so get with the lying. Watching Jerry prey on a young musician reminds me of classic shows like The Monkees or A Year at the Top. Young, despondent musicians are the devil's bread and butter.

Speaking of Jamie Kennedy, I've never been a huge fan but his portrayal of the talentless loser musician was spot on. Moreover, I think it made sense that he was willing to sell his soul. First of all, let's be honest, no living person really comprehends what it means to "spend eternity in hell" so it really isn't that scary a consequence. Add in the fact that his life was in the crapper anyway and maybe he was onto something. Call me selfish but if I had Sam's problems, I don't know that I'd be so worried about a guy who picked Ryan for a stage name.

As for Jerry, how great is it that the devil now has an actual name? I'm hoping that since Sam and Cady are dating, we'll get to see learn all kinds of things about Jerry's earthly life. I especially want to see what kind of car he drives.

Out of all the souls Sam has gone after, this guy scared me the most. I mean, the teeth, the eyes, plus he ate his own mother! Isn't that literally biting the hand that feeds you? When he bit off Ryan's hand that was awesome. I keep forgetting just how dark this show can be,

I knew there was something about the love triangle that was missing and when Cady shared her story with Andi, it all made sense. There has to be a downside to dating the spawn of Satan and I think we're going to see it next week.

If Sam and Andi end up together, will it ruin the show?
