Big Brother 9: Eviction #3 and HOH #4

Mattie and Nattie
(S09E11) Expect the unexpected. Those of you who are dedicated BB fans know this phrase all too well. It could mean that your ex-boyfriend is getting thrown in the house with you. It could mean that your estranged father is one of your fellow houseguests. It could mean that your nemesis who you campaigned against is getting another chance at the Big Brother crown. Last night we evicted another houseguest, found out what the siren meant, and got a new HOH all in one hour. It's not going to be a really short season of BB after all!

A review of last night's Big Brother 9 follows after the jump...

The creepy Adam Pre-Eviction Drama!

Matt continued to play all sides. Remember yesterday when he explained his approaches with the different houseguests? He said he would appeal to Josh's gay side (or something to that effect). Last night, he told both couples that he was voting to keep them, thinking this was an excellent plan and he would be the hero after the eviction. Yeah, you see, those hamsters tend to talk to each other though. They don't just talk to you, Mattie. So, the whole promising your vote to everyone really doesn't work.

James brought the situation to a head when he called a "guys meeting" and asked Matt straight up who he was voting for. Matt got pretty flustered and couldn't go toe to toe with James. Now, James isn't a brainiac (remember the guinea pig toy theory?) but he's certainly more articulate than Matt. Matt threatened to bring up other "operations" but didn't say anything compromising. James just said that it wasn't right to lie to the other guys because they all hang out together. Aww.

The fight couldn't have been all that bad though. Matt and James were sitting together after the big siren shake up. It seemed to me like Matt left Natalie's side and joined James and Chelsia's team now that he was free. What do you think?

Mattie and Nattie sitting in a tree:

Sharon looking studiousIt's no big secret that Natalie is obsessed with Matt. Only God know why. He's cute, but Matt? Really? To shed some light on their relationship, Big Brother was kind enough to provide us with a look at Matt's and Natalie's respective friends back home. These segments are always such a waste of time. Nobody back home ever offers any real insight into the behavior of these crazy hamsters. They always say really sweet diplomatic things about their loved ones (as you would expect them to do).

Matt's friends said that he's there for the money because he doesn't want to be a roofer his whole life. And Matt will make a great husband when he finds the right woman. Natalie's fellow bikini baristas said that she falls head over heels too easily and she's a great painter and a really good person and blah blah blah. See? BORING!

The scheming Allison The Eviction:

Let's get to the meat of what happened last night. After Matt and Natalie took themselves off the block, Josh and Sharon had to nominate a new couple: Sheila and Adam. It was no big surprise that both voting couples chose to evict Ryan and Allison. But when Allison went to open the door...

And...cue the SIREN:

Expect the unexpected little hamsters! Here it comes. After Ryan asked for the door to be opened and the siren blared. Josh looked like he was going to vomit. Ryan and Allison looked like they just won the lottery. Matt cavorted around the couches.

The Chenster came on the screen and explained that the houseguests were now playing as singles. Everyone (except Natalie, Josh and Sharon) jumped around and cheered. I know why Natalie wasn't cheering but Josh and Sharon? Maybe they were just waiting and holding their breath for the rest of what Julie had to say.

The house then voted live for either Ryan or Allison to be evicted. Ryan gave a nice speech about how he's liked getting to know everyone. He seems like a genuinely nice guy so his speech came off as sincere and probably further endeared him to the remaining houseguests. Allison, in a last feeble attempt to manipulate everyone, cried about how she didn't want to say anything bad about Ryan. I hate when houseguests say that. It's YOUR speech so tell people why YOU want to stay.

Again, it didn't come as a big surprise when Allison was evicted by unanimous vote. Allison, however, was quite shocked and hurt. Did she really think that they would vote to keep her? Or was she just hurt that no one gave her a sympathy vote? She only barely hugged Sharon on her way out and that was because Sharon put herself in the way. She's a bit of a sore loser if you ask me.

Time After Time:

It's the first single HOH competition and it's one of those annoying True / False tests. I hate True / False tests--they're too confusing. James and Natalie apparently share my confusion as they went out on the second question. The third question wiped out Chelsia, Matt, and Sheila. It was a Ryan and Adam showdown for a few questions until Ryan came out on top and became the first single HOH for Big Brother 9.

And now, some predictions... It will be interesting to see where people's true alliances lie now that the couples are split up. I think James and Chelsia will remain a team (they've worked well so far and they seem to enjoy each other's company). From last night's episode, I think Mattie will join them. It looks like Natalie and Sheila might be on their own. I wonder if Sheila will break away from Adam entirely now that she has the opportunity.

Ryan will probably hear everyone out before making his nominations. I honestly have NO idea who he will nominate. What do you think?

And don't forget to vote for an evicted houseguest to come back in the house!

Quotes from the Hamsters:

"Now that we're all single, we're going in the hot tub tonight." --Matt
"They know. They know. They know. You know what I'm sayin'. If you don't know, that's too bad. You know what I'm sayin'.That's not my problem." --Matt (Who else?)
"And to know that I actually put together that circle with a line in it, you know, I'm used to painting portraits." --Natalie on winning the PoV competition
"I'm very happy to say I am gay. And I'm glad to know you are not." --Josh in his taped message to Allison

Who is definitely going up on the block Sunday?
