Fans of 24 will have to wait until January 2009 for the seventh season to commence, but in a move that's likely to be met with cheers all around, Fox has announced that the producers of the Keifer Sutherland action drama are creating a 24 two-hour TV movie which will be a prequel to the next new season. The story will cover the two years between the end of season six and the beginning of season seven. The actors are being cast now, presumably the essential members of the team who survived the previous 24-hours of a nuclear disaster, terrorism, lies, betrayals, shootings and tragedies.What is known about the upcoming full season of 24 is that it will introduce the first female President of the United States. Tony-winning actress Cherry Jones will be playing Madame President. This would suggest that President Wayne Palmer (D.B. Woodside) didn't survive his injuries from the assassination attempt in season six, although his fate could be a storyline in the prequel TV movie. There's a lot more than that to be addressed, too, Chloe, Morris, Bil, Audrey, Valencia, California...did I mention Jack Bauer?
Since each season of 24 takes place in real time over a 24-hour period, it'll be interesting to see if the TV movie veers from the formula and shows the two-year lapse in another way, even if it's a traditional storytelling style. Whatever the format, it will surely whet our appetites for lucky season seven!

Just a question, but how can something be considered a prequel to something that doesn't exist yet? If this came out AFTER Season 7 aired, then it could be considered a prequel. Right now, it's simply a two-hour special. To quote George Carlin, "let's try and pay attention to the language we've all agreed upon."

I was anticipating this. However, I'm not buying the story that they're "creating" this movie on a whim. I believe the 24 writer-producers were preparing a prequel for some time now. They knew over a year ago the impact that potential strikes by the WGA and SAG would have on the production of seasons seven and eight. They were expecting to lose at least one season, at least.
The reason why Fox isn't going ahead and airing the already completed episodes of season seven is that they will not be able to entirely complete shooting of seven before the end of June-when SAG's contract expires and the actors could possibly go out on strike. If SAG strikes, it could make the WGA strike we just went through look like small potatoes.

How about a prequel called "Day 0" that takes place before day 1 and would bring back David Palmer (The Unit is cancelled anyway), Nina (the bitch is back), and Tony (well apparently he's still alive but its been a while). Oh and Jack Bauer's wife too. Just not the daughter she can be at grandma's house far away with her cougar.

24....by whatever time measurement, has jumped the shark last year. After that Titanic of a season, there is no recovery.
The liberal philosophy of the show, however subtle, finally was understood by the audience, and they fled like rats off...the Titanic. Now they are bringing flaming liberal actresses in to drive home the point for the obtuse.
Forget 24. The plot of the rebellious, but righteous, teen, the ignoramus, corrupt, conservative politician President, the re-run plot line is done. 24 is dead!
Maybe starting a new series titled "30 Days" might allow for some new creativity. But please, bring in some conservative writers and stop the liberal propaganda!!!

Kiefer Sutherland favorite actor and 24 favorite show. Fox, should have them on TV now. Should not make Kief and his crew wait until fall movie and until Jan. They could have 2 hours episodes and put on March or April.
Kief deserves more. Jack never taught our troops anything. They are over there. ABC is king to show 5th season early Sun. but wish they'd show after Oprah at 12:30. If Kief does not want pressure, could he opp just to be head of 24 and maybe not Ex Prod. Whatever would work to keep him on period. Not just 1 or 2 more year. Thank you very much.

How about call it 48. Think about it. They had so much time to do Season 7 that they may as well have had time to work on Season 8. So, come January, it should be 48 and not 24. THAT would be awesome...YAY!!
