(S04E06) "Cop Comedy!" - Allison Dubois

Yet another reason I try to stay away from red meat. You never know when you might end up eating one of your own limbs. It's nice to see Allison being startled by a dream that is actually disturbing.

I figured it was only a matter of time before Devalos makes his way back to his old office and, to be honest, I like the way the show is going about it. I would be insulted if they dragged it out by having him ponder the decision of going back. There's no reason he shouldn't want his old job back and I say the sooner he does, the better.

I am shocked at the complete lack of suspense in Allison's first meeting with Greg Itzin. We've all seen the previews for this episode and we all know who she will be meeting at the restaurant, so why the big buildup? I understand that Medium has been a little lackluster in the guest star department, so NBC has to announce that an Emmy nominee will be on this week, just don't ruin the surprise and expect me to care.

Jake Weber is so awesome. It's hard to imagine what it's like to be the only male in a house full of girls but to add in the fact that he is the only one without some kind of psychic ability, it's a wonder Joe Dubois hasn't gone out for a pack of cigarettes and kept on walking. Weber's portrayal as the head of the family who really isn't in charge of anything is so perfect that I sometimes forget what a damn fine actor he is.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this but I always like to try and figure out Allison's dream in the teaser for the show. I usually come close but there is almost always something extra that I didn't see coming. By the time Allison had her third dream I was convinced that I had it right from the beginning. Senator Jed was a POW and he was forced to eat one of his fellow soldiers to survive. Now the moral questions about cannibalism are really immaterial in this case, seeing how very few people can actually say how they would react if they were starving to death in a prison camp, however, the actions taken in an effort to deny that it ever happened are a different story. At the forty minute mark I was really hoping that this episode would surprise me. I was also hoping that I wouldn't have to see anymore terrible fake beards.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be. The episode ended exactly as it started with no surprises and nothing interesting revealed. As much as I enjoy Medium, the caliber of writing this season has really slipped. While the family stuff is great anything that happens to someone who's last name isn't Dubois is really mediocre.

I admit that I really liked the B story about Bridgette and the dude in India. In fact, that gives me an idea for a spinoff. The rest of the episode, however, was disappointing to say the least.
