Oh, Peter. They're breaking up that old gang of ours! There's a spin-off of Family Guy in the works at Fox. Peter's drinking buddy, Cleveland Brown, might be getting his own show. Oh no, does this mean he may be leaving Quahog? What, no more get-togethers at The Drunken Clam? (Note to self: He's an animated character; he could still be part of Family Guy.) Cleveland is perhaps the most down to earth of Peter's pals on Family Guy, which could make him the perfect centerpiece of a new cartoon series. Zany new characters could be built around him. If history repeats itself, he could be the George Jefferson to Peter Griffin's Archie Bunker, i.e., The Jeffersons spinning off from All in the Family.
The new show, with the clever title of Cleveland, will be penned by the creator of Family Guy, Seth MacFarlane, with Mike Henry, the writer/producer who provides the voice of Cleveland collaborating. Also on the creative team is American Dad's exec producer, Rich Appel.
Cleveland, for those who don't watch religiously (shame on you!) is African-American, a family man who's wife bosses him around, and he's known to have more than a few accidents in the tub.
Family Guy isn't the only series looking to spin-off at Fox. Reportedly, the powers that be would like to see Prison Break in a women's prison. Can't you just see the cat fights to come?

Cleveland's wife left him after an indiscretion with Quagmire.

What a bunch of assholes at Fox!
They cancel Futurama, and still won't give it new TV episodes, yet they will make a spinoff of Family Guy?!?!
Idiots. I hate you Fox.

Sounds like a horrible idea to me. Cleveland is ridiculously boring. His monotone voice is really annoying. He's sorta like that kid in the wheelchair from Malcolm in the Middle, who talked so slow all I did was anticipate the moment he'd stop talking, disregarding whatever he said.

Sounds a horrible idea. Bring back Futurama or Arrested Development before stretching MacFarland even further.

No, Fox movies brought back Futurama to do four movies. Fox TV still hasn't asked for new episodes of Futurama. So Futurama is still canceled.

Not that I'm saying there should be spin-off's, but if any character on Family Guy needed a spin-off it's Quagmire. I like Cleveland but he is way too subdued to fill a half an hour.

I saw this on Wikipedia and didn't know what to make of it (whether it was true or not) but I'd probably like it. The writers may be spreading themselves too thin but I could see it working well.

Cleveland is by far the weakest character on the show. Very bad idea for a spinoff. Even Meg would do better on her own than Cleveland.

You all say that it is a bad idea. Um, Seth did make the show "Family Guy" work, with five gay characters who have the same exact voice (Oh NOOOOO, Oh Haaayyyy). So why do you not have faith that Cleveland will be good?
They could make a whole new cast of characters just for Cleveland's show, like his extended family, and his "other" friends.
I like this idea... I'm interested to see where it goes.

I think Seth Mcfarlane should focus on the two shows he already has, one of which has been declining in quality lately (fg) Focus on American Dad(underrated)

Wow, why? Why not just make twice as many Family Guy episodes? A show focusing on Cleveland has no potential to be any good and will just end up being Family Guy again, but with dull boring Cleveland instead of dimwitted Peter. I'm surprised they don't give Stewie a spinoff show. They could call it the Stewie Brian Power Hour or something. Its obvious people find Stewie's antics funny for some reason (maybe because a killer baby is funny? Yea, for like 4 episodes) and he has some kind of fan following so a program starring him would probably be more successful than Family Guy itself. Where was the demand for a Cleveland fanbase? I was under the impression that Stewie was the only character on Family Guy that had any kind of following.
