AI OD: A farewell to Garrett Haley - VIDEO

It had to happen sooner or later, and for Garrett Haley it happened a lot sooner than he probably expected. After the guys sat down to hear the results, Ryan brought Garrett up telling him he wanted to chat with him for a minute. Then he said, "Hey, Garrett, I like your hair," or something to which Garret replied, "Oh thanks--" "You're fired!," Ryan interrupted doing his best Trump impression. "You're outta here! Fini! Dunzo! Get the *F* off the stage! No, I'm kidding. I kid. it's what I do. Not about being eliminated, you're finished, but we do want you to sing that song you butchered on Tuesday again. Oh, but I got you, didn't I. Got you good." [Addendum: the author of this post may have paraphrased this exchange slightly.]

If you want to get the real elimination, you'll find it below. There's a bunch of other stuff on there like recaps of all the guy's performances from the night before. Let's face it, who wants to post a three second video (Ryan ripped that band-aid off):

Now you can relive the performance that got him booted off the show. Maybe, if you like this, you should have voted more ... or hired a bunch of girls scouts to vote for you; everyone knows little girls have the fastest fingers in the world. Just ask any father of pre-teen and young teen daughters to show you his wireless bill:

An interview with Garrett from an Ohio FOX affiliate; interview happened before he was cut from the show so don't look for any insight into that, you can find that in some of the post-elimination interviews he's done (after the video):

AOL's post-elimination interview with Garrett Haley revealed some interesting insight into the process on the show. When asked about his song choice, Garrett essentially revealed that his song was chosen for him. Initially, contestsants can select three songs from a list, but when all of Garrett's selections had already been handed out, it was Idol that threw Neil Sedaka's song "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" at him to sing.

Another funny thing is that prior to Idol, Garret indicated he'd never heard the comparisons to either Leif Garrett or Peter Frampton, but when Ryan kept pressing on the issue he told him that he gets that a lot. From who? Ryan and the Idol people who were trying to drum up some sort of "story" for him to garner votes. Not that it worked in the end.

He also said he looks to the likes of Elliott Yamin, Ace Young and Chris Daughtry as inspirations; all three from Season 5 of American Idol. Maybe somebody should remind Garret that he's already been thrown off. No need to continue sucking up to Idol. It's over. No tour. Now he gets to go back to Lima or wherever he's going to try and ride his minutes of fame until they sputter and die.

His MySpace page shows a pic of him with his girlfriend (I know his status says he's single but his blurb calls her out by name). Her page says she hails from Beverly Hills, CA while he's from Lima, OH so that's why I wonder where he's living now. They could have put Lima on there for the show, or did he meet his girlfriend via Idol. Who knows as her page is set to private, but you can ask him if you want. Nevertheless, she's pretty so at least Garrett has a sweet relationship to fall back on, even if it might be a long-distance one.

Garrett wasn't necessarily my cup of tea, and I didn't think he had Top 12 material in him, so I can't say as I'm horribly upset that he's been eliminated. There are just far too many singers in the competition with deeper talent than he has. But if you liked him, jump on the comments and talk about what you liked. People Google themselves all the time, so you never know. Garrett might just find this article and read it.
