Don't you just love the web? News traveling so fast, ideas extrapolated and speculated upon based on the simplest of facts. That said, here's a sweet little tidbit that I found amusing. Tom Cruise was spotted on the Los Angeles set of the new Star Trek feature film. He reportedly was visiting writer/director JJ Abrams. The two men, you'll recall, collaborated on Mission Impossible 3.This exclusive, courtesy of JFXOnline, revealed that Tom stuck around the set for a couple of hours. Prior to this sighting, there had also been talk last fall that Abrams had wanted to enlist the superstar to make a brief cameo appearance in the revamped Star Trek opus, telling the story of how creator Gene Roddenberry's original characters came to be. How Captain Kirk made it out of the Star Fleet Academy (in The Wrath of Khan he said he cheated on his Kobyashi Maru simulation test), as well as the first time Kirk met the half-Vulcan, half-human Mr. Spock.
Tom Cruise's representatives Arnold Robinson, denied the rumors of his appearing in the film, and Paramount hasn't said much since pushing the opening for the film to May 2009.
I'd like to think that Cruise's visit -- which was more than just a hit-and-run "hello, how are you?'" -- means that he actually filmed a quick scene. After all, how cool would it be if he popped up in the feature. I'm not saying they have to cast him in a big part, but couldn't he appear as a one of those anonymous redshirts that beamed down to a planet and wound up killed in the line of duty? I'd pay to see that. See, doesn't Tom look good in red?

I hope he wasn't in it, he's destroyed everything he's been in for the past decade.

Let's see in the last ten years he's done Magnolia, Minority Report, Vanilla Sky, MI2, MI3, and probably a couple others. Still haven't seen MI3 myself so I can't attest to that, but all the others may not have been Oscar contenders but they were still enjoyable movies. Vanilla Sky was actually damn good.
Why has it become so popular to hate on Cruise? So what if he believes in Lord Xenu...

Why wouldn't he be in Star Trek. He worships spaceships.

Why shouldn't Tom Spacecruiser do a cameo? After all, no one is more into sci-fi than Mr. Scientology himself. Maybe he can give the director some story ideas, based on experiences from the alternate universe that *he* lives in.

This post smells. Agendas, anyone?
No details. No links. Nothing except your basic "straw man" argument that Tom Cruise doen't belong anywhere near....
Well, anywhere near what exactly? A movie set?
This was a weak post to begin with - and a poor excuse for a post when trying to figure out exactly why it happened.

Did you actually read the post, or did you just assume they were insulting Tom Cruise? The post is quite amiable about the possibility of a Tom Cruise cameo.

I think Cruise's personal beliefs are pretty wacked, but he does make good movies most of the time. I agree with Curt, Vanilla Sky was a pretty good movie. Far out ( to borrow the late John Denver's saying) but quite enjoyable. I liked all the MI movies also. If he'd stop spouting off about Scientology that would be nice.

didn't he? he don't talk scientology and refuse to do it since 2005
the media are forcing him to talk just to create controversy and get big tv ranking
he refused to do press conference now
Good job Tom
He is also a gentleman I admire for never responding Sumner redstone's insults.

I feel that there is nothing truly positive or negative about Cruise appearing in the film. For people who feel uneasy about his ties to Scientology, their argument is moot in this case as Abrams is also affiliated with the cult. People who hold these affiliations against the stars must remember that it may be more accurate to see them as blinded victims in need of help instead of villains in need of attacks. Members are known to be predisposed to paranoia; discrimination probably is one of the last things they need, especially in light of recent events.

Um.... I'm still P'oed at him from the PPD comment. As I tell my kids, "Sometimes, I'm sorry isn't enough."
Jerk.
Now, if he was in a red shirt.... and beamed to a planet.....

Yeah, I guess if your lord God is a spaceship you should consider yourself a victim because you're mentally retarded. I wonder if they met to see how they could work Zenu into the plot line somehow.

I think Tom's great but it would be fun for him to play a redshirt who gets eaten by a plant monster on an alien planet five minutes into the movie.
