Yet another game show premiered last night. This time, it was NBC's Amne$ia hosted by Dennis Miller. This show has a similar premise than FOX's The Moment of Truth: contestants reveal secrets and facts about themselves in order to win money. The main difference between the two: Amne$ia does it tastefully while Moment goes for the ugliest and dirtiest secrets and somewhat doesn't care that your relationships go awry after the airings.I couldn't help but compare the two shows when I watched Amne$ia's premiere last night. The tone of NBC's show is funnier and lighter. Miller jokes with the contestant and with family members that were brought along for the ride. He links questions very well together and uses what the family members revealed to make the show go smoother. Miller's interactions with the contestants may be planned but they seem more genuine than what Mark L. Walberg offers on FOX's show.
Even if we like to know someone's dirty secrets, I enjoyed the questions on Amne$ia more. It's fun to see a contestant try to remember events from his own life or even try to find his front porch's carpet amongst a series provided! I don't like watching a show that can destroy families and Moment offers that (okay, the show helped a father and his son come closer but still it did cost a few people their relationships and potentially their job). Amne$ia is clean fun.
Also, the results are revealed much faster than on Moment, where you can wait a lot of seconds (and suffer through the usual suspenseful music) before knowing if the contestant said the truth or not. What I didn't like about Amne$ia though was the length of the episode. After 30 minutes, I was ready to move on to another contestant even if the contestant in the premiere was fun to watch.
What did you think of Amne$ia? Do you like it better than The Moment of Truth? Let your voice be heard in comments and in our poll.

I found Amnesia boring for the simple reason that the audience can't really participate in any way. At least with Moment you can guess at what the person's answer will be, and whether they lied, or whether they'll just take the money. But with Amnesia and questions like "Which of these is your front welcome mat?" the audience has to just sit and wait for him to guess correctly or not. And worse, it's not like he's out on the first question wrong like most game shows, so there's not even really any suspense that comes with "Oh no he might get it wrong."

I watched the show on 2/23/08. There was a wrong answer that they gave as correct = the Indian in the movie, Indian in the Cupboard was named Little Bear, NOT Little Bull, as they said on the show. Geez, get your facts straight!!!!!

I thought it was better than I expected; I was expecting just another game show. I think comedians make the game shows better; like Dennis Miller, Howie Mandel, and Drew Carey. I never really caught on with are you smarter than a 5th grader or 1 vs 100 or moment of truth. I have to agree with the article, I kept thinking this show sounds like Moment, but funnier; even though I haven't seen Moment, the advertisements sum up the show, awful and dirty. I believe Amnesia will fall under the category "if nothing else is on I will watch it".

Didn't watch it, and don't plan on it, for the simple fact that I can't stand Dennis Miller. Don't watch these types of shows often anyways though, so I don't feel like I'm missing out much.

See, 1-vs-100 I watched this week and got to see a contestant who "knew for a fact" that Britney and Kevin Federline were married longer than Pam Anderson and Kid Rock, but then had to ask the audience for help about whether the 36th president of the United States was Lyndon, Andrew, or Don Johnson. You can't write stuff like that :).

I agree with Duane. Very boring. Who cares about one life at a time?

I hated the show - it was all over the place and there was really no risk for the player until the last ten minutes or so - but mostly liked Miller as host. He may not come across as being on the side of the player, like Howie, Bob, Drew and the rest, but there is something to be said for his sometimes sarcastic attitudes.
