(S09E02) First, I would like to start by echoing the sentiments of my fellow bloggers JJ and Jackie and say, "Woot! Big Brother is back!" And furthermore, a Big Brother during the winter? What did I do to deserve this? While the WGA strike was horrible and while I am excited that the strike is over, it did produce a winter season of Big Brother. And that doesn't suck. Okay let's get to the juice. The hamsters (I borrow the phrase from Jackie.) had an eventful night. A quick rundown of the first eviction and first HOH competition after the jump...
So, BB bypassed the usual Nominations, Power of Veto, and Eviction vote early in the episode by having Jen and Parker just pick a couple for eviction. I didn't like this as I am a big fan of the BB process and all the drama that stems from that process. Last night, after Jen and Parker eliminated Jacob and Sharon because Jacob ran his stupid mouth way too early in the game, Big Brother returned to its regular competiton protocol and there was an HOH competition. Speaking of Jacob, isn't it always the houseguests who think they are "stirring the pot" and pat themselves on their backs in the diary room the ones who have no idea how to "stir the pot" effectively?
Now that the first annoying couple is gone, there is only one more (as of right now) that needs to leave: Sheila, the cougar who can't accept that she's hit mid-life, and Adam, her creepy "soulmate" with buggy eyes. Last night, Sheila continued her hateful downward spiral while Adam made offensive comments about disabled children. Adam also apologized for said comments by offering a disclaimer: he works with these kids all day long. They're both so charming, aren't they?
The "stoopid hamster" moment of the night goes to Jen. Instead of using her female wiles to save her boyfriend, she decided to reveal her real-life relationship to her BB partner, Parker. And what's with the crying already? Don't turn into another Amber please. Anyway, Jen's move was foolhardy and will come back, for lack of a better phrase, to bite her in the ass. This decision was almost as stupid (but not quite) as Kaysar taking his finger off the button in season 6. Remember when America voted him back in the house and in the very first HOH competition he trusted Jen from the Nerd Herd?
But I digress. After the first eviction, the first HOH competition was held. The couples were asked questions to see how well they knew each other. The game was boring and BB tried to make it interesting by having the houseguests walk down a runway "wearing" their answers.
The competition was not without highlights though:
- Jessica and Eric from season 8 hosted and yes, they are still together. (By they way, Eric would've won last year if he didn't have to do America's bidding. Just sayin'.)
- Chelsia hit James pretty hard on the head after he got the pool boy question wrong.
- Amanda and Alex won the first HOH and she jump-straddled him. I think Amanda will jump-straddle Alex many more times before they leave the house. And jump-straddles are annoying so I kind of want them to leave soon.
- One more thing about the competition. It's not a highlight, more of an observation. Why did Sheila rub her boobs in Adam's face after he got the first question right if she despises him so?
Umm, before I go...the best moment of the night had to be the jump cuts punctuated by drum sounds where Jen, Allison, Ryan and Parker said that they didn't trust each other. Kudos editors of BB! This reminded me of a similar moment of brilliant editing from all the way back in season 3. I don't know if you'll even remember but Jason (the little twit who paired up with Danielle) was interested in Lisa (Season 3 winner and hottie) but knew he was no match for Eric (the Hulk-ish firefighter). They cut from Jason's confessional to a scene of Eric working out (in grainy black-and-white with a thundering sound playing). Awesome.
The hamsters will be back on Sunday 8 pm ET/PT.

Good grief. I had no idea Big Brother was still on the air before I started reading this blog. Of course they would have a new season even if the writer strike continued, because this show requires no writing. I couldn't stand the first one and I honestly can't believe there are 9 of them now. What is TV coming to?
Anyway, I believe it's "w00t," not "Woot."

Something isn't right with the Sheila/Adam thing. When they are in confessionals, they talk about how they can't stand each other. They complain to the other housemates about each other all the time. However, their body language tells a different story. A few times in the episode last night when the focus wasn't on them, you could see them lounging on each other or sitting next to each other. The most obvious was during the HOH (that Kristen pointed out) when they looked like they liked each other! I'm very confused.

I agree, did you see when Parker got them out of bed the camera swept the room and she was leaning all over his lap....I thought it was weird. Then she was all over him during the HoH......maybe BB knows what their doing...
Question: What's w00t?

@ Allison and Anna: Good calls about Sheila and Adam. Something is fishy with them.
@Anna: I think W00t with the two zeros is internet-speak. I see it on my husband's and his friends' blogs all the time and I guess it has made it's way into my speech. I didn't use the two zeros though making mine just a plain Woot. Like Woohoo! Hooray!

Allison & Anna, I'm sure glad you all saw that and mentioned it (about Adam & Shelia) because I thought I was just imagining things. I would bet money those 2 are up to something, another twist maybe. Because Shelia did that stuff more than once after wailing to everyone in the house about how much she depises Adam. The first time I really noticed it was during the HOH competition when she leaned over to him & rubbed her boobs in his face. I don't care how glad she was that he got a right answer, no way she does that if she can't stand him. And there were other times, too, when maybe it wasn't so obvious, but as you pointed out, what about the bed thing? If I am forced to sleep with someone I hated, you can bet I'd be sleeping on the far oppisite side of the bed, ready to fall off, before I'd be cozying up next to them. By the end of the hour, I had my suspicions that they were up to something. Just the way she instantly hated him the first night. I may be way off base on this, and even if that's what's up, it might not be working because they were real close to being evicted. But i can see the logic, make everyone think you're mierable and WANT to leave, and they just might write you off as a threat and ignore you, let you slid. Crazier things have been attempted. One guy tried the "win nothing" thing once, and ended up winning the game. (Dr. Will, of course.) Feel free to pick apart my theory, everyone.
