Variety is reporting that the strike is indeed over. I think I speak for everyone at TV Squad when I say, "Yay!" to this news. The WGA West president announced that almost 93% of the guild members have voted in favor of lifting the strike. The total vote tally was 3,492 members for yes and 283 for no. The vote, held over 48 hours, allowed members to vote in person at the Writer's Guild Theatre in Beverly Hills or the Gotham Crowne Plaza or via fax.Leslie Moonves, CBS Corporation prexy and CEO, said that despite the ill-will early on in the strike, the sides were able to come together under media blackout and work things out. "Once [WGA leaders] got to know some of us they realized where we were coming from. Nobody handed us these jobs," Moonves commented.
Also helpful in ending the strike was the tentative agreement reached on January 17th with the DGA. According to Variety, "The WGA was able to use that pact as a template in reaching the outlines of its deal two weeks later." Moreover, the deal between the WGA and the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) should set the tone for negotiations with SAG-AFTRA when their contract is up on June 30th.

the irony of the fact that they could only vote in person or via fax about something that primarily has to do with the future being the Internet is awesome. i really wish it were in person or via carrier pigeon.
note to WGA - there are secure voting methods online too. Its faster, easier and cheaper than sending and recieving thousands of faxes saying, "PLEASE LET ME WORK AGAIN. END THIS NOW!"

I'm just glad that The Daily Show and Colbert Report will stop being struck and they can get a wider variety of guests back. The writing hasn't been the problem--both shows have held up pretty well (although it showed that John Oliver and Samantha Bee are talented, naturally funny people, and Jason Jones and Rob Riggle are decidedly NOT).
But last week one day Jon had a guest talking about the Teapot Dome scandal, and Stephen had a frog expert. Now THAT'S scraping the bottom.
