Now that the writers' strike is over, watercooler talks shifted from "when will the strike be over" to "what shows will come back, when, and for how many episodes." One show that fans were extremely looking forward to (mostly after seeing the video after the jump) was 24. The series, first set to return in January 2008, was shelved by FOX so that season 7 could air uninterrupted. When FOX made that announcement, some of us predicted that the show wouldn't return until at least mid-August. Since the network is known for starting it's fall season a bit early for certain shows (e.g., Prison Break), maybe the series could have aired from mid-August until the end of December with a few 2-hour long episodes. But it looks like this option won't happen. Instead, we will have to wait 11 months to see what happens next in Jack Bauer's life!
24's producer/writer David Fury told E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos that "24 works best 24 hours in a row. I don't think we'll see it until 2009." Over at TV Guide, gossip columnist Michael Ausiello predicts that Season 7 of the drama will more than likely be postponed until January '09.
Even if this news is unpleasant for 24 fans, it is not a surprising move from the network. A lot of TV viewers prefer to wait for the DVDs so they can watch the 24 hours almost back to back; therefore, it would not be a good decision to air episodes spread over a "normal" TV season (September to May).
In the meantime, you can read up on the season 7 spoilers we posted in September and watch the amazing teaser FOX released in October.

Thanks for catching that. My mind was set on "January 2009 return" when I wrote this so I guess my subconscious couldn't write 2008! It's fixed.

Why do they need to wait until January in order to show the season uninterrupted? This is a really stupid decision. There is no reason to wait until January to show the season, and I hope this bites them in the ass in the ratings department.

This, and what happened the last two seasons of 24, are enough to keep me from watching the show ever again. Jack Who?

I, for one, am happy the writers' strike ended, and I'm not thrilled about possibly not seeing "24" till Jan. '09, I can deal with it. A show as awesome as "24" has consistently been for 6 great seasons is well worth the wait. Stop whining, people. It's unsightly.

If they filmed the remaining 16 episodes from March to June they would finish the season and avoid any possible SAG strike. The series could start in the last week of August (24/25) with its 2 day 4 hour premiere we all love. It may lose one week to the World Series but that could be made up for with double episodes. There would be enough time to finish the season by the 15th of December 2008.
The 8th season (which I don't want to see) could begin production in September '08 and have the premiere in its usual January spot with a 2 day 3 hour premiere (like it was supposed to happen a month ago) or they could wait a little later to launch the season and finish in June 2009 (like the 7th season was originally going to.)

WTF.
I, personally am getting tired of these long lulls between "seasons". Lost, Battlestar, 24 among others generally lose my interest in the waning months between. I actually don't care if I miss Lost anymore even though I used to be a rabid fan. It too long to wait to keep interest really high, I'd prefer getting smaller chunks.

Totally new concept, pay attention FOX...
24 MONTHS!
One show every month for 24 MONTHS! (make sure to always use the exclamation point!)
Three weeks evry month to build up the chair busting, electric wire teasing excitement!
Three weeks off for community service, if it's called for...
24 MONTHS!----more time for character development, more death scenes of regulars, bigger and badder bad guys!
Jack travelling around in an RV during the summer. Skiing in the winter. Maybe wedding bells in the spring.
Hey FOX have your peolple call my people and we can talk!

This is rediculous! Since there are already 8-9 episodes finished, they could start airing them while the writers complete the remainder. There would be no break and all of the 24 fans would not have to pay the 1 year penalty for something they had no control over.

I love 24 and to keep me going till the new episodes air, our family has started watching all the seasons again. It's great....we are now on the 2nd season and we'll keep watching and be all caught up again and ready for the 7th season to begin in Jan 09. As long as I can watch Jack in action, I'm perfectly happy. You are a wonderful actor Keifer :)

America! It is time to strike back at FOX with their decision to not air "24" until January of 2009. We the viewer at not at fault with the "WGA Strike." I have been watching "24," since it first season and each year, I try my patient to wait to watch another year of "24" that air on FOX in January. Of all the show on national TV, I never miss "24" and a loyal fan of this series. If any of you reading this message, please do not watch any of FOX shows, beginning March 1, 2008, in order to send a message to FOX how America with their decision. It is not America's fault and the show should go on. Remember, without of viewers, would FOX be around? Read between the lines FOX...
