Looks like it's bad news for 'The Return of Jezebel James. FOX announced in a press release that effective with the March 13, 2008 installment, the "Results Show" of American Idol each week will run one full hour, instead of the usual thirty minutes. FOX has seen great success in dropping thirty minute shows behind the "Results Show," as was originally the plan for Jezebel. Instead, that series will now premiere with a one hour special the following day, Friday, March 13 at 8/7 Central. In other words, FOX has apparently given up on Jezebel altogether. Why else would they take it from one of the most coveted time slots on television and drop it in the Sahara wastelands of Friday night where it has to go up against Jennifer Love Hewitt's Ghost Whisperer?

Even if the strike does end this week, it's going to take some time before any new shows will be ready to air. So it makes sense to expand the "Results Show" to a full hour. FOX is on pace to win the year's ratings race and adding more air time to it's heaviest hitter is just smart business.
It's just that those bloated hour-long shows have a tendency to be quite awful. Maybe they can work in all their celebrity guest appearances in these shows rather than the actual competition episodes. That way the Idol still gets to kiss the asses of the music industry, give established artists a multi-million viewer platform to hype their new records and all that crap that Idol has grown to love doing without interfering in the competition itself.
Either that, or we'll get Ryan vamping for fifty-five minutes, more painfully terrible "commercials" by the finalists than usual and lots of awkward group numbers. I don't know which I'd prefer more? I still can't believe they haven't given us DVD sets of all those great Ford commercials yet.

Yes more Idol is good, not i can do homework and then be in front of the tv for results at least thirty minutes late, i used to hate having to run to catch it for the tiny time slot.

This Amercan idol show is the best show ever isnt it! Every season gets better and better. I think Simon is getting a little soft spot in his heart for some people.

Actually, I make it a rule to NEVER watch the results show live. I record it and then just fast forward thru about 90% of it. It is so much fluff and filler that all I'm really wanting to see is who got voted off and that's it.
Sometimes, I'll even skip the show entirely and just read what I "missed" here on TV Squad. Just as good if not better than live TV - Simon is no match for the snarkiness of everyone commenting here anyway!

I found you when searching for a way to email the show regarding my view of how tonight's one hour long results show was for me. In a Simon Cowell word, 'awful'. Honestly. I've been a fan of the show for a few years and enjoyed watching it but I found tonight's show crummy because: I don't want to hear Simon's negative comments over and over again between replays and new opportunities to say his negative opinion. I love Simon but tonight's show was just a rather high emphasis and dosage of his 'honest' opinions. Hearing them once must be hard enough for contestants, hearing them many times, please, enough is enough kinda like this commentary. Next is, I honestly do not want to see again the three lowest vote getters. The votes were lower for a reason, often because viewers simply did not enjoy the performances. It just felt like bad programming and Fox is shooting themselves in the foot thinking tonight's more was 'more'. For me it was less and if it keeps this format I can easily see myself tuning out and doing what one person said here, record and get to results. I'm disappointed. But I guess that's what happens when you enjoy Idol too much. Also if there's anyway to let David Archuleta know we'd like to hear him do Yesterday next week. Jason might do it well too. Anybody know how to get these comments to American Idol folks?
Thanks for listening to me go on and on.

one more p.s. I watched Ryan deliberately and conscious discriminate against the 50 year old viewer calling in by skipping over them three times to talk with younger viewers. Major ageism there. I love Ryan but tonight as someone else here said his commentary just felt flat for me tonight. Sorry...complain complain complain. Wish David Hernandez all the best in fulfilling his dreams of a singing career.
