Please don't stay ignorant. Yes Hyundai made crappy cars years ago, but times changed. Maybe you should pop over to your sister site Autoblog and see what people who business is cars are saying about the Genesis. I am not saying this because i have any vested intrest. To the contrary i have never owned a Hyundai but i will give them their due.

It is because of people like the author of this post that Honda & toyota can get away with making indifferent cars while companies like GM & Hyundai are coming out with great product. Welcome to 2008.

I have a 99 Tiburon (which I'm really happy with) and a 07 Santa Fe that I love. I have had lots of experience with all similar SUV's in this class and the Santa Fe is amazing. I would of had an Azera too if the 07 had been available in Canada when I was looking for a new car.

I agree with VP and Arc. I own a Sonata and it is roomy reliable, was priced nicely and overall I have had no problems with it.

I know the Hyundai had pretty bad cars around 15 years ago, but come on, that's ancient history. They make pretty decent reasonably priced cars now.

Who cares if Hyundai makes good or bad cars...this is a boring commercial. Plain and simple. Hyundai has boring commercials plain and simple.

well i think hyundai makes an awesome car for the price they ask for. i m a proud owner of hyundai sonnta 2002. i own it and very very happy and pleased with it.
everyone else i knew still owe money on there cars and also looking to get new one. i m a 100% sure that hyundai brand is gonna make big one day. i can see it already.

It's ignorant commentary like this that keeps American way behind the Japanese and Koreans from producing quality cars anymore. They just count on the idiots to buy them because they can't recognize a better product at a better price if it hit them in the face

Hyundais have creeped into the top 10 for reliability and bang for your buck are easily a better deal than a comparable Toyota/Honda. Get an education about cars.

If the Genesis delivers on 7 series levels of refinement at 3 series prices, you may see a Toyota/Lexus LS400 like event. What? You don't know what that means, do you? Back in 89 the LS400 hit the luxury auto market by storm with it's low 35k msrp. Suddenly toyota had a luxury car at 10s of the thousands less than a comparable BMw/Jag/MB. It changed everything.

The Genesis is a shot at doing the same. Nothing else like it exists in that price range: luxurious, RWD, V8, full-size and a price in the 40s.

Go read up on Hyundai...

Wow, what a thing to say without having a clue. If nothing else you're driving up the comments.

The Genesis is getting ready to turn the market segment it's aimed at upside down. In-case you haven't noticed, none of those makers that are in the cross-hairs are saying much ... they're sitting back with that "deer in the headlights" look on their face.

The Hyundais of yore were somewhat disposable but I would advise a quick trip to your local dealer and take a test drive of any on their lot. Then get ready to see what they'll give you on trade-in for whatever you're driving.

anyhow, i'm gonna go ahead and agree w/ j.j. here. i've never owned one, but did have it (sonata) as a rental car and it felt like i was driving around in a playskool car (cheap for a reason...and most of these: kia, hyundai, daewoo. they come w/ 100k warranties for a reason). i've known a couple of people who've owned these as well (maybe around 2000 or 2001) and they had nothing but problems w/ them. i can't speak to the genesis specifically, of course, but in my experience the brand doesn't have the best reputation.

You know Hyundai creating a car to compete with the bests of the luxury industry is nothing like Toyota/Lexus. Toyota created an entire new Marque (Lexus) in 1989 to distance itself from the Corollas and Camrys that they were also making. By doing so people did not go into a Toyota dealership to buy a $40k Lexus while it was parked next to a $7k Tercel.

If Hyundai wants to get into the luxury game they have to create a new brand ala Lexus. The luxury cars buyer not only cares about features, amenities, and luxurious appointments many care about the brand cache`. Hyundai has too much of a tarnished image in the American market for people to seriously cross-shop a 7-series and a Hyundai.

Not to mention, buyers will be going into plain-jane Hyundai dealerships where they sell thousands of Hyundai Accents (the Hyundai cars that people usually associate with the brand). Another piece of luxury car ownership is the buying experience, which is something Hyundai will not be able to deliver on.

THIS CAR IS A BUST IN MY OPINION

I have a 2005 Tiburon and it's a great car. Looks nice, reliable, gets good gas mileage and was not very expensive to buy or insure.

I agree with others that this should be about the commercial and not the car. I'm not a fan of Hyundai and they still don't crack my top 3 or even top 5 for most categories, but they have improved a lot over the years. Also, Honda.... C'mon, if you're going to try and bring another automaker into this and generalize you picked the wrong company. I wasn't impressed by the commercial, but the ending of the commercial obviously didn't work on you.

And this is why our country is screwed. People form a bias for many different things in our country which ends up hurting the consumer. Hyundai is trying to do one thing: give a great car for a great price. To even further explain what they are doing, try and realize that if more people by their car, it will give the sign to other automakers that maybe they should make a quality car for the right price too. It's all about competition, and childish bias is something that needs to be grown out of, especially for people publishing a widely read blog.

I used to be biased to brands, but when you look and realize that the world is not out to get you and rip you off, you end up with a better deal and letting the competiting company know that they need to step it up or find another consumer.
