Go Daddy.com: "Wardrobe Malfunction"
I don't know who Donica Patrick is, but apparently she is going to have some kind of a wardrobe malfunction available only at GoDaddy.com. I just love how this commercial plays on nerds who are always on their computers, even during the Super Bowl (ahem); how they only watch the game for the commercials (ahem); and how it assumes that nerds would be into internet porn-- which is sort of what they are offering at Go Daddy.com in this commercial. There are better reasons to go to Go Daddy.com-- like buying a domain name, which is why I go there. But I still chuckled at this commercial and I thought it was pretty smart considering the small time package they had to work with.

Is there something about the Super Bowl that brings out the "hipper than thou" attitude in which people have to pretend they don't recognize famous athletes? I suppose it also happened when Peyton Manning hosted SNL -- didn't we have some TV Squadders who had no idea who he was?
That's Danica Patrick, frequently downloaded race car driver. I'm sure the ad is stupid -- GoDaddy ads don't exactly treat women as anything other than eye candy, and Patrick has never seemed at ease with the concept.
As a public service, I should probably tell everyone that if they see a blonde Russian tennis player in an ad these days, it's most likely Maria Sharapova rather than Anna Kournikova.

Why do you think it's pretending? I wouldn't recognize most sports players. I've heard the names of players like Tom Brady and Derek Jeter but I have no idea what they look like. I certainly don't watch Nascar (seriously, when did this get considered a sport?) so I for one had no idea who she was. I dont watch sports on TV, and I assume anyone else who doesnt recognize the players doesnt either.

She's actually not NASCAR -- she does Indy-style racing and held a late lead at the Indianapolis 500 a couple of years ago.
But beyond that, she's all over the place. Commercials, talk shows, magazines, etc. She's a bit like David Beckham in the sense that you might not follow the sport but you know the name.
To compare to another ad -- if you asked me to hum a Shakira tune, I couldn't do it. But I'm aware that she is a well-known singer.
It's like the Pulp Fiction conversation -- "But you are aware there is something called television, and they produce shows, right?"

I gotta agree with you, bdure. I don't watch racing or sports and I haven't watched a professional football game, including the super bowl, in 10 years, but I know who Danica, Maria and Anna are. I also know who Peyton Manning is along with Shaquille O'Neil, Charles Barkley, etc. because, as you said, these people are all over the place.

I surf the internet daily, watch sports, visit sports websites, and still had no idea who this girl was. While other sports stars might be "all over the place", this girl aint one of them
Maybe if she starts winning we'll hear a little more about her. Until then, I think a comercial about her flaunting her body for a bunch of horney nerds is as much of a splotlight she'll get

Just the opposite -- winning won't help at all. Can you name the winner of the last Indy 500? The last IRL season title?
In tennis, can you name the Australian Open women's champion? OK, non-tennis fans might get that one because Maria Sharapova, playing some of the best tennis of her career, took that one. But Anna Kournikova never won a singles title. She was a terrific doubles player, but no one knew about that at all.
Patrick attracted attention because she's a rarity -- a female race-car driver. She's even more of a rarity in that she's good enough to contend for wins, though she hasn't won one yet. And she's, um, marketable.
If a couple of people haven't heard of her, fine, but you'll have to take my word for it that she is actually a pretty substantial celebrity. More famous than just about everyone who played in the actual game except Tom Brady.

It helps to understand the subject when doing a review, but it seems pretty obvious(especially after reading other reviews, Derek Jeter) that Ms Creer just doesn't know much about sports nor did she get many of the references that much of the viewing audience did get. The main purpose of the commercial was to get people to go to GoDaddy.com, of course. Go Daddy.com gets a bunch of attention for their "controversial" ads every year. This year, they basically used the attention around the ad as the ad since they didn't have much time for a Plan B.

Didn't she used to race for Letterman's team or something? I think that's where I heard of her from, she was showcased as the guest one day and the ads for it were all over.
I did notice that the only people in our SuperBowl group that recognized her were people that consistently watched nighttime television, or a few sports games every week, if there's any correlation.
