Can you imagine Smallville without Lex Luthor?
That's the possibility that arises after you watch this video (also embedded after the jump) of star Michael Rosenbaum at YoungHollywood.com. Most of the video is just Rosenbaum explaining what he's doing at the Sundance Film Festival, what he gets in free stuff for being on a TV show, who his mom looks like, and how to fake a smile for all the cameras that are always shoved in his face. But in the last few seconds of the clip, Rosenbaum tells fans to watch the show "for only a couple more months, and then I'm done."
Hmmm...I wonder what that means, exactly. Since he didn't say "then the show is done" it probably means that he's leaving the show soon and not that the show itself is ending. I thought for a second that he might be referring to the writers strike, but his line wouldn't really make sense, since there isn't a couple of months of new shows left.
The show is currently in its 7th season.

This is old news, almost a year in fact. He said the below back in Feb. 2007.
"Next year will be my last year. I had a great run. I loved it, but that will be it for me.
"I know that next year is the last for me. So, it will be very sad when it happens, but all good things must come to an end."

Yeah it's a well known fact for over a year that he was planning on leaving after season 7. hell that info might have come out when season 5 was on.

It's hard to see how the show can continue. I mean, can they have some crazy new comic book character every week? Losing Rosenbaum would lose one of the few last human touches "Smallville" has. I expect Chloe to get killed off any week now, since she's the other only genuine, semi-real character left now that the parents are gone, there's less Lionel, and we're stuck with the Cardboard Twins of Welling and Kreuk.

If people didn't watch this super crap then we wouldn't have to worry about the show continuing without Lex.

Old news or not, I found this link because I was wondering if the writer's strike might have changed anything. They didn't get in a full seventh season! So I was hoping Rosenbaum might stay on in order to ensure a graceful exit...

Honestly, I think the worst part of this news is that he will no longer have an excuse to shave his head. I think he looks much better bald - it sets him apart. If he were to market it, like Yul Brynner did, it could be his signature. I understand that being bald kinda limits the roles you can play, but several bald actors (including Brynner) were huge stars *because* of their signature look.
