Since the first season of ABC's hit series Lost, fans have been speculating on the fate of Jack and Claire's father, Christian. At first we thought he was dead. But then there was the empty casket and Jack saw his father on the island. Eventually, most of us assumed that the smoke monster took the form of Christian. The final Missing Pieces mobisode / webisode of the series reignites the water cooler talk about Christian's fate. The first webisode may have been a total let down but the following ones, especially the last one, were pretty good. If you are/were a Michael fan, you have to watch most of the webisodes as the character appears in a good number of them.
Webisode 13, titled "So It Begins," features a scene that took place mere minutes before the series premiere. I will not spoil the watercooler-talk-worthy scene but let's say it features Christian and Vincent. The clip ends with Jack waking up on the island post-crash.
You can watch "So It Begins" at DarkUFO's Lost blog. (Note that it is not yet available on ABC.com but all other webisodes are.)
Is Christian alive? Could it be that when you arrive dead on the island, you somehow come back to life? Or is it still a smoke monster trick? Let us know what your theories are by commenting.

i think he's alive. Just because in the flash forward didn't Jack talk about how his "dad wrote me this prescription," and "you wanna talk to him? he's right down the hall probably more drunk than I am."

I'm not so sure about that. I just assumed that Jack was using one of Christian's old prescription pads and that's why he didn't want the pharmacist to call and verify. As for saying "He's down the hall...", I think Jack was just drunk/high out of his mind in that scene...
I think Christian is dead, but I'd buy into the "alive only on the island" idea with some more info...

Why would the smoke monster appear to Vincent as Christian Shephard? The dog has never seen him before.
(Or has he?)

Yep, after seeing the finale again last night, I think dad was alive on the island...much like others were ressurected.

I thought the producers said along time ago that Christian was very very dead.

They did, but people don't let facts get in the way of theories.
It was the smoke monster, which is why they had him repeat Walt's line from the finale. That line was there to solidify that neither of them were the real person, but merely smoke monster manifestations.

Everyone that appears on the island to the Losties is the smoke monster. The smoke monster can take any shape it wants to mess with their minds. The smoke monster changed into Christian, Yemi, Ben's mom, etc. Actually, I believe that the smoke monster is directly related to Jacob and Richard. Since Richard never ages he is the smoke monster and he has a huge influence on Ben since he was the one that recruited Ben to be part of the others.
Smoke Monster = Jacob = Richard

hes dead. the main reason we think hes alive is that jack said so in the flash forward and the guy from 'las vegas' never said anything. but really, if someone you know had a father who died and they were tweaking and claimed he was alive, you wouldn't say anything either. jack's problem is he thinks that he can/should fix everyone. he feels guilty he didn't save his father but also hates him at the same time. he wants him to be alive so he can be allowed to hate him.
and they also said the webisodes wouldn't advance the story (just be offshoots) so i doubt anything that happens in a webisode will be paramount to the overall plot.

He's alive for one reason: You don't tell the audience that Jack and Claire are related, and then never have it be a plot point. They're going to find out, it's going to be relevant, and Christian is going to be the one to tell them.

More and more I'm thinking the island is "back in time" so if that was the case he'd obviously be alive and Locke would be able to walk and yadda yadda. Don't know how Claire would still be pregnant, though. I'm still working that out in my head.

Lindeloff and Cuse have said that once you are dead, you are dead. Season 3 finale has some provacotive content, but these can be explained by Jack's erratic behavior.
At the same time, many people have had halucinations while on the island. This may be the island's way of communicating with people to guide them to do what they are "Supposed" to do. I think that the idea of destiny and what is supposed to happen is a central theme (from Star Wars) of the series.

Yeah but they also say "No one really dies on LOST".
Though i'm sure they are just referring to the fact that they can come back as Cerberus Manifestations and what not.
Still, Christian's mystery is interesting, but i also find it annoying because i hate Christian and Jack-related storylines for the most part, lol. His flashbacks are always the boring ones imo. Hopefully his flash-forwards are better though. :)

Okay naysayers...how do you explain the pharmacist preparing to call Dr. Christian Shepard, the doctor who wrote Jack's 'other' prescription in the flash forward?

Did you read any of the other comments? They already explained that. lol.
She is just a pharmacist lady, she didn't know if he was alive or not. Its not like she keeps in contact with EVERY Doctor in LA.
Jack was out of his mind, nutso. lol. Thats what drugs can do to yeah though.

The "you are not really dead on LOST" quote refers to the fact that you can always come back in a flashback on lost as an ACTOR. That quote was not about the plot.
Jack's dad is dead. Period. Anybody who's dead is dead on LOST .
Speculations like these annoy me. Cuse and Lindelof have stated over and over that there is no way a dead character can come back to life. There is NONE. Newsbits like these can be funny for those people who crack their brains about lost at the watercooler but IMHO they totally annoy the real Losties who think about the plot again and again and try to wrap their brains around what Cuse and Lindelof are going to do and how everything fits into the scheme of things and how it can be canon or not.
To be honest, Isabelle, I like that you mention this, but I don't like the fact that you actually accept this as a talking point. You should've at least mentioned your own standpoint if you ask me. This way this feels like the target is ad revenue not Lost-discussion. *sigh*

Here's another way to look at the clip: Everything that happens right up to before Jack opens his eyes is a dream -- Jack's dream as he is lying unconscious.
