Fox crushes competition in the ratings

FoxThis week in the ratings was a good one for Fox. Between football, reality TV and the lack of other scripted shows to watch, this WGA strike may be the best thing to happen to Fox in a while.

The network had its best non-Super Bowl ratings ever, with an average of 24.2 million prime-time viewers. This was more than double any other network on television.
Interestingly enough, while American Idol ratings kicked butt on all the other networks, the debut episodes was down 11 percent from the ratings of the 2007 debut episode. Does this mean the show is getting less popular? As someone who is sick of the hype of this show, I certainly hope so.

I just wonder if this is a hiccup in the ratings due to a confluence of circumstances (end of the football season and the writers' strike) or if this is a sign of things to come. I guess we'll find out when the strike ends and football season is over.
