If you tuned into Live with Regis & Kelly this morning expecting to see Ringo Starr perform his new single, then you were probably disappointed. He walked off the set before the show started.
Starr thought he was going to be able to perform the entire "Liverpool 8" song without editing (talk shows often need a shorter version of the song to fit their time schedule). He actually tried to cut the 4 minute, 15 second song down to the required 2 minute, 30 seconds, but found that he couldn't do it and still have the song be worth hearing, so he decided not to appear on the show at all.
Interestingly, he appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman last night and performed the same song in an edited version, but one that was much longer than 2 minutes, 30 seconds.
Starr's publicist said that they could cut back his interview or fade to a commercial, but the show didn't want to do that. Meanwhile, the show says that Starr has known about the time restrictions for months.
La la la la, life goes on.

Exactly Dorv.
I appreciate Ringo's artistic integrity on not shaving the song down, but he could have respectfully declined appearing on the show months ago stating his reason.
To back out a the last minute was extremely unprofessional.

I agree with everyone.
Ringo's a Beatle. That gives him status above Regis or Kelly. He can do anything the fuck he wants to.
At the same time, Ringo's not John; Ringo's not Paul; Ringo's not even George. Ringo hasn't done a goddamned good thing on his own since Harry Nilsson's "The Point." And that takes an ear to hear Ringo.
So if Ringo wants to keep his shit going, he's going to have to bow down to the Simon Cowells and Ryan Seacrests in the world because you can't live forever, Dick Clark.

and worse than the View? who the fuck do you think YOU are?
My mind has changed. Fuck Regis. Fuck Kelly. Fuck Ringo. And fuck Heath Ledger for overdosing.
And fuck Paris Hilton, too. You're all way too overcrowded with celebrity.

Right trollhair. They booked him in November?! They should have given him enough time to sing his song. This is such a bad show anyhow - it will be biting the dust soon.
Good for you Ringo. You shouldn't have to comply with such ignorant rules.

I heard the song last night On Letterman. I don't think he should have shaved the song in half either. So Ringo made the right decision in my mind. 2 minutes and 30 seconds is awfully short time for a song.

Ringo Starr is a legend! The producers of this show should have felt honored to have him on it. What an insult to cut his song short. I don't blame him one bit for walking out.

This is Ringo we're talking about here: couldn't the show's producer get Reege and Kelly to gab 120 seconds less? They must have been somewhere in the show where they could've shaved off 2 minutes. It's not like we'd miss it.

I don't really get why everyone is cheering for Ringo here. He was booked months ago with the understanding that the song would be cut down to 2:30. Then, on the day off, he walks off because he can't do it?
I mean, I understand taking a stand for artistic beliefs, but shouldn't that stand have been to not take the booking?

Umm...how about he's getting more publicity for not going on the show than if he had?

Did you know that Kathy Lee left the show YEARS ago?
Still, your sentiment is correct. He's Ringo EFFING Star! He's a freaking legend. You know, one of THE BEATLES. If those two gulls can't stifle their egos for two or three extra minutes then THEY DON'T DESERVE to have Ringo on the show.
