Actually it's just Kiefer Sutherland being released after serving his 48 day sentence for DUI and violating his probation from a prior DUI. Thank god production on 24 was willing to wait for him to serve his time because other-- oh wait. There is no production. At least now there won't be any issues when they do need to get back to work on saving the world.I've got to be honest, though, I don't understand what happened. Help me out here. Isn't Kiefer Sutherland a Hollywood star? And yet he served his full 48 day sentence in prison? Why didn't they let him out after nineteen minutes? Lindsay and Paris and Nicole all got out after a few minutes, so what's the deal? Is it because he doesn't have breasts? Because that's discrimination and I won't stand for it. I demand that all my celebrities serve only token gestures towards jail sentences for real crimes. It's not right that Kiefer had to suffer like a real person for his crimes. Where's the justice?

People I went to high school with would get DUI after DUI and they never served any time in jail. Adults get DUI's in my former state all the time, reported in the police blotters, yet wouldn't get time either. It seems that way in my new state as well, that the policies aren't very strict. It seems to me that if you can afford a good lawyer then you'll get off, plain and simple. And even if you can't, if you're in the right neighborhood, then your case may just get tossed anyway to make room for "more important" cases in a over-burdened justice system.

I read that Keifer didn't want special treatment. He wanted to be treated like any other inmate. If that's true, that's really commendable of him and probably why he didn't get out after 19 minutes. Wow, integrity in a celebrity, who'da thunk it?

It's because he requested to serve his time in the Glendale City Jail over the LA County jail ... they agreed to this request on the condition that he would not be able to shave any time off his sentence.

Not trying to bash him, but yes he served his "full" sentence of 48 days.....for DUI!!! (I think it was DUI, was it not?)
Find me one Joe Blow that server 48 days for DUI. If I am wrong, and regular people do only serve that much....our system sucks.

I agree. Drunk driving is serious. It takes lives and ruins families. 48 days for a repeat offender is a joke. He should do a year minimum.

Oh come on,.. a year?
If he was in jail for a year then who would save this mighty nation from terrorists?
He was in jail for only 48 days and look what has happened to this once great nation... the dollar has weakened, the stock market has plummeted, and Clinton started winning primaries. All hell is breaking loose!
You think this is coincidence? I think not.
Welcome home Jack,.. I mean Kiefer. We need you.

Although he did not get the special celebrity treatment reserved for the 25 and under white kids, he still got some celebrity treatment. He successfully made requests. I wonder how much luck I would have with requests if I were a repeat offender. Forty-eight days isn't a long period of time unless you compare it to what other celebrities have gotten. I'm a Jack Bauer fan, but I don't put him above the law when it comes to something as serious as DUI. This is an instance where I can't joke about justice. I just hope it is all out of system and he can go on without drinking or at least has a driver.

h8rain and others, I hate to tell you this, and I won't tell the state I hail from because it makes us look really bad, but I happen to know a person who just got his 2nd DUI like Kiefer, the only difference was that he had more time in between his 2 than Kiefer did, but on his 1st he got no jail time just a fine and a supended license for 6 months and on the 2nd he got 2 weeks in jail but it was a work-release type situation (he was able to leave for 8 hrs. a day for his job) and driving privleges were suppended for 6 months. And that is typical for this state. They only get really tough after the 3rd conviction, then you have the very likely chance that you will go to prison, not just county jail. People have been trying to get the law changed here for years to no avail. I don't know why, maybe the liquor lobbiests carry a lot of clout, but it's sad that it's still this way. I remember a few years back, 2 college students were killed in a DUI-related accident which also, killed the offender, and after the fact it was revealed that the guy had had 4 DUI charges against him in the previous 10 years ( or about that amoun of time) and had never served more than 10 days in jail, TOTAL. He had had good (and I use this term loosely) lawyers and had always gotten off. (By the way, just do a little research on the net, we're not the only state to have very lax DUI laws.)
I don't know if Sutherland has learned his lesson or not, but I hope if he does have a problem, he gets some help. But, it's Hollywood.
