A Daily Show: January 21, 2008

Jon StewartJon kicked off the episode by running a few rounds of paper football. Not that I'm a big paper sports enthusiast, but I couldn't help but notice that he wasn't holding the football quite right. Jon, your story just doesn't add up. He then flubbed a gag with a toy robot, which was pretty precious, even though it didn't make much sense. What can I say? I like satirists and robots.

"Indecision 2008": The Democrats took on Nevada and the media took on the world's most cliche Las Vegas metaphors to cover Hillary Clinton's win. However, Jon had them all beat with his "bet on black" comment. Of course, Hillary's win was met with criticism and Bill Clinton defended her like he's already the First Laddie. And then that drew even more criticism. So it goes.

Correspondent John Oliver, who apparently has started living in the Daily Show studio again because he's in, like, every episode, commented on Bill's devotion. BJ jokes ensued and, I must say, I was more amused than disgusted.

On the other side, Republicans did their thing in South Carolina. That Garfield cartoon with John McCain was absolutely terrible but oh, how I laughed. The clip of Rudy Giuliani subliminally mentioning "9% to 11% over GDP" was also hysterical. However, seeing the weird 9/11 sex graphic was just as disturbing as the first time I saw it.

The night's guest was Jon Meacham, editor of Newsweek. A Jon, John, and Jon all in one night! Wacky! No? Just me that is amused? All right then. The interview was mainly about media coverage. It was interesting for the most part, but nothing remarkable. I'm pretty sure I didn't miss anything big, but, honestly, I was still shifting in and out of Cloverfield dizziness that started earlier in the afternoon. Oh, random personal side-note: My cinema-going buddy and I thought the movie was making weird noises halfway through, but then we saw, like, four people suddenly jump up in the third row and realized that some guy had thrown up. It was pretty funny. And sad. But mostly funny.

Jon/Stephen: None. Boo. Moment of Zen: How does Giuliani get to drop 9/11 so masterfully?
