NBC has brought back American Gladiators to good ratings, and now ABC wants to bring back a show from TVs past. The network is bringing back Circus of the Stars, the specials that had TV stars walking highwires, training tigers, swinging on a trapeze, and juggling. And NBC isn't staying out of the celebrity circus game. In fact, they have a new show coming up that's actually titled Celebrity Circus.
Eh. This isn't the 80s celebrity competition show I want to see come back. How about one of the networks (or all, they can rotate) bringing back Battle of the Network Stars? That might be fun strike viewing. And no, I'm not talking about that lame, horrifying Battle of the Reality TV Stars from a few years back. I want to see Jon Stewart steering a kayak, Matthew Fox throwing a football, but mostly I want to see the blond chick from Chuck in a wet bathing suit.
As for Circus of the Stars, I think the only thing that might make me tune in is the possibility of seeing Dr. Phil eaten by a lion.

Dude, you're a hater.
Circus of the Stars was a lot of fun back in the day, especially the stars that were actually willing to do some of the tougher acts like trapeze and highwire.
I'll tune in.

yeah back in the day american gladiators was fun too...
now with everyone afraid of insurance rates and afraid of "embarassing themselves" is their really any chance of any star big enough for us to care about really doing anything dangerous.
i am sure even the most basic trapeze/high wire tricks are very difficult but is it really anything we havent seen before. Is it going to be more interesting b/c its the original becky from roseanne doing it? Is the 15-20 minute intro trying to get us to care about becky again going to be worth watching??

There's nothing funny about someone being eaten by a lion.

To steal a line from Steve Martin; I'd love to see Battle of the Network Stars...if it was fought with machine guns.

Honestly, I loved Battle of the Network Stars. However, now there are so many networks that would need to get involved it would have to be a week long special. Some of the best shows aren't even on the big three anymore.

Back in the day these things really had the stars of network shows; now it will be d listers. Like Celebrity Apprentice, where half the cast is who??? Another show for some reality stars to try to stretch their time in spotlight.

I have been waiting for ABC to bring back battle of the network stars -- or some celebrity sports type show -- does anyone remember the bruce jenner hosted show -- star games in the mid 80's? I wish they would bring back those shows -- running relays, swimming relays, etc.

When I first began to read this post I thought about "Battle of the Network Stars" and how that would be a good way for Regis to go and then I got to the second paragraph and you also mentioned "Battle of the Network Stars." I then realized I had had a horrible thought.
