Following in the footsteps of the recent Colbert Report and 30 Rock shows at the Upright Citizen's Brigade theatre in NYC, Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane along with Alex Borstein (she voices Lois) are putting on a benefit show for the WGA East at Carnegie Hall on January 31st. Janeane Garofalo and Patti LuPone will be making special appearances.
I saw an ad for the show in the newspaper this morning and checked out the Carnegie Hall website the second I got into work. Looks like the show is supposed to feature a night of "music and comedy." Sounds great! The idea of hearing McFarlane spout jokes in the voices of Peter, Stewie, Brian, or Quagmire in a live show is pretty cool if you think about. Plus, it's even funnier if you consider all the cultured events that have been hosted at Carnegie Hall over the years. Orchestras. Theater. Opera. And now Peter Griffin saying "penis" and giggling.
I'm psyched about this. I live in the area and wanted desperately to go to one of the two UCB shows I mentioned, but due to the small venue and late announcement of the shows, tickets went fast and I really didn't feel like waiting in a long line with virtually no chance of getting in. It was much easier this time. I went online. I bought tickets. Done. Four to be precise and they weren't all that expensive either. I'm sure there won't be any cameras allowed, but I'll try and snap a few shots anyway and will definitely have a review of the show the following day. Giggity-giggity!

I saw this show at Comix on 14th st. two weeks ago. It was fantastic. I highly recommend it. It will probably be a grander show at Carnegie Hall, but it was one of the funniest live shows I'd ever seen. Seth McFarlane is so dry (and pretty ballsy) and Alex Borstein is so funny. They have great chemistry and it's a great show. What they did was sing popular songs (going from A to Z) in the stylings of Family Guy characters, Ms. Swan, Kermit the Frog, Marley Matlin (!!)... There were also cheesy lounge acts and of course tons of musical theater references.

Do you think some of the money will go to the THOUSANDS of non-WGA people that are out of work because of the strike? Maybe Seth can pony down some of that DVD money he makes and make some house payments for the non-writers who need it.
I guess that was not funny...
I guess it isn't.

Quite frankly, he's putting on the show, and he can do whatever he wants with the money -- keep it himself, give it to the WGA fund, or even burn it.
If you would like to see money given to below-the-line workers, as many of us of course WOULD like to see, maybe you should organize your own benefit show or shows and help them out with their finances. I'm certain it would be much-appreciated. Although, for that (much like any benefit show McFarlane could put on for non-writers) it would be very hard to actually organize the funds and distribute them across the board in a fair and just way, since their unions (assuming they're of a group represented by one) won't have a strike fund activated, as they're not on strike themselves. So the logistics would be nightmarish at best.

Since I learned about the show only by seeing this post, thanks Jonathan.
There is a rundown of the songs from A to Z here:
