JJ Abrams, of Lost, Alias, and Felicity fame, has another TV show coming up, this time on FOX.
Fringe will star Kirk Acevedo and Tomas Arana and is about a young female FBI agent who teams up with a scientist to investigate odd phenomena and other sci-fi happenings. Wait, is this X-Files 2?
More interesting than the plot of the show is the price tag for the pilot episode: $10 million. That's just for the pilot episode. I hope it doesn't turn into one of those shows that has a great-looking, expensive pilot episode (*cough* Smith *cough), hooks viewers in, and then the rest of the show falls apart. But I have faith in Abrams. He has a great track record, enthusiasm, and is an actual fan of the genre and not just a producer, so I'll give this a shot.

uh oh... as a lost fan should this make me nervous? I had heard that alias had a really strong first couple of seasons and than really fell off before all of the questions could be answered b/c he got bored with the show. Between him doing cloverfield, star trek, and now this when is he ever going to have any time to explain to me the secret of the island and/or numbers

It wasnt so much that JJ got bored with alias but rather the development of Lost meant he didn't have the time to be as hands on.
As for Lost being hindered by him being too busy, he really hasn't been involved that much since season 1. Alias got him the mi:iii gig, then he shows such as What About Brian and Six Degrees which werent really his shows but were from his stable and he had to do some work on them (Trying to sort Six Degrees out last season was one of the reasons his planned return to Lost to direct a couple of episodes didnt happen). So if you are one of the many people who hasn't noticed his lack of involvement already you wont do now either

JJ hasn't been actively involved in "Lost" for a couple of seasons...your concerns should lie with Damon Lindelof setting up any side projects.
And, by the by, ABC made Lindelof et al map out the rest of "Lost" through it's 2009 end, so sleep well that the story's already set in stone.

I think theres a chance the pilot may have already been written. After all this announcement isnt a shock one as its been known that this pilot had been pitched for a fair amount of time (before the strike started), all that remained to be seen was would the pilot be greenlit (fairly obvious with JJ attached) and how much the budget would be.
Obviously this wont help after the pilot is produced AND it may present problems when its being shot as they will not be able to tinker with it but there may very well be something to shoot.

That's a great question TVblogger! They can give him 10 million dollars but it won't lead to anything if it won't be written. The earliest this will be out in 2009 and it will be canceled months before then (it is on Fox after all).

It'll be great for a month, and then Fox will kill the show. Or they'll show it out of order, or pre-empt it for Baseball, Football, or the brand new spanking Fox reality show. Oh, you say "House", "Bones", PrisonBreak" and "24" proves that Fox doesn't cancel everything? Sure, but the last sci-fi series to not get cancelled on Fox was "The X-Files".

The only sci-fi show Fox ever gave a chance to was X-Files and this is X-File 2, so maybe they want screw it up.
Yeah I doubt it too.
But for 10 million dollars what the hell will they spend it on?! i hope Abrams is smart enough to only use like 5 million (which is still a lot) and then can use the other 5 million for more episodes.
