You think Oprah Winfrey is already the most powerful person on television? You have no idea.
Winfrey and Discovery Communications announced a deal today that will have the Discovery Health Channel given to Oprah and switched to The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN - really!). In return, Discovery gets Oprah's web site. I'm not really sure what getting to run Oprah's web site means for Discovery, but it will be part of the network.
I just hope that she doesn't do the same thing with the network that she does with her magazine, putting herself on the cover of every issue. Can you imagine a little Oprah icon in the corner of the screen all day and night? The network will debut in 2009 in 70 million homes.
So this means that Oprah now has a daily talk show, an XM radio channel, a magazine, she produces TV shows and movies, has a huge impact on book publishing, and now has an entire television network. OWN is an appropriate name for the new channel...

I always thought it was on NBC, I moved from Alabama to Missouri and they both have it on NBC...oh well Dr. Phil is on CBS in St. Louis and is on NBC in Alabama.
