Looks like FX is at it again. The new drama pilot Sons of Anarchy from Kurt Sutter (FX gave it the greenlight back in October when it was called Forever Sam Crow) has been scheduled to begin filming on February 14th according to The Hollywood Reporter. The drama will focus on the seedy and often corrupt world of motorcycle clubs and the familial lines that usually run through them.
A boatload of casting news was announced too. Katey Sagal (Married with Children, The Shield), who happens to be Sutter's wife, will star alongside Charlie Hunnam (Undeclared) and Scott Glenn (Backdraft). It gets better though. Allen Coulter, perhaps best known for directing numerous episodes of The Sopranos, has signed on to helm the pilot.
I've got to be honest. This sounds like a home run to me. I can't think of anything else on TV, past or present, that sounds similar to this show and FX has been on a bit of a hotstreak lately. Plus, the major parties involved have standing relationships with FX, so it must help to know what's expected of them. Coulter, in addition to The Sopranos work I mentioned, also directed the pilot episode of Damages. Sutter has been involved with The Shield as a writer, executive producer, and guest star since season one. He played Margos Dezerian. Remember him? The Armenian hitman with the foot fetish? Yeah, that guy is making a TV show.

It's an interesting cast, but...seedy and corrupt motorcycle clubs? Really? There's enough general interest in that subject for a scripted show? Sounds like viewer repellent to me.
Even "Deadwood" at least had generations of Westerns behind it, although I never really understood the appeal of them in the 21st century.

It amazes me how good the shows are that FX puts on and how bad the shows are that Fox airs.

I think the Fox networks are so good at fictional programming because they practice it 24 hours a day on their "news" channel.

It's funny to see Scott Glenn credited for Backdraft (1991), but then again, it's probably been that long since I've seen him in anything. What a great actor.
The subject of the show seems questionable, but if it's on FX, I'll give it a shot.
