I think it's reminiscent of "if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound?" What if they gave out Golden Globes and no one was there to walk down the red carpet? Perhaps I'm just a cynical so-and-so, but I think the ceremony is as much a part of it all as are the actual trophies, perhaps even more important to many in the industry. It's their chance to shine, to glow, to wear nifty trend-setting gowns. Hey, it's Hollywood. It's the chance for those behind the scenes to take the stage if but only for a minute or two.

Due to the WGA strike, there will be no ceremony this year as the actors show their solidarity with the writers. Ah, but it's the industry -- the show must go on even if the show can't go on. The Golden Globe winners will be announced in a news conference sort of setting. Hmm. I think I'll just read about it all online. Let's forget the drama about no awards show and get into the nominees for Best Television Series, Drama!

Without further ado, the nominees for Best Television Series, Drama are:

Big Love (HBO)
Big Love is the story of a modern day Utah polygamist with three wives and seven children. Although it's my own call that it's not my cup of tea, I'm going to say it won't be the Golden Globes cup of tea, either.

Damages (FX NETWORK)
I think we may have a contender with Damages on FX. I think this could be the best drama series you may not be watching. Superb acting and intelligent writing put this legal thriller to the foreground of the awards front for me.

Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
With Grey's Anatomy, I think we're in a living the past glories stage. I think there's been more drama on the set this past season than we ever saw on the show.

House (FOX)
Okay, to House. While I think that Hugh Laurie himself is one of the best actors in a television drama, I'm not so enamored with the show as of late. I'd rather see it win than Grey's but its popularity is fading for me.

Mad Men (AMC)
Mad Men is a fresh concept in the world of television drama bringing AMC into the fray of the original drama spotlight. The show is about the ruthless world of ad men set in 1960, a different time, a different world, yet strikingly intriguing. While I don't think it will win this year, I believe the show worthy of the attention it's garnered.

The Tudors (SHOWTIME)
Then there's The Tudors. Again, a show which goes against my personal tastes in drama although I know it's well-crafted. I'm just not into historical dramas of this ilk. Could it win? Maybe, but not on my short list.

Well, the television drama show which would get my vote for the award isn't on the list. For some reason, it usually gets the snub for awards, yet The Wire (in my very humble opinion) should be topping this list and winning the award. I say these awards are tainted by the exclusion of the show, but I'll go into a quick take on the nominated shows and give you my predictions. Of course, I could be way off base as these folks never consult me on my choices. (The Wire would be in there if they did!)

My personal vote goes for Damages.
