The winter of 2008 will be an interesting one for television. With so many current shows at or near the end of their seasonal run, due to the staring contest known as the writers' strike, the schedule is going to look a bit different. Not only will it be filled with more reality shows, but it will also contain some untested scripted programs that have been waiting for the mid-season to air.
Nevertheless, not all is doom and gloom come the new year. There will be many favorites returning to the airwaves, although they may have shortened seasons. For instance, shows like Medium, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Lost, Monk, Psych, and, yes, even According to Jim, will be returning to the schedule. Then there is the anticipated return of Jericho and, of course, another season of show-killer American Idol, which may not have any competition at all this year.
So, to better navigate the world of winter television, we have provided a list of new and returning shows. Programs are listed in alphabetical order by network and report when a current show is returning to to the schedule or when a new show's premiere will air. In addition, we have also listed how many episodes are left in the show's run, or how many will air if it is premiering. Finally, this time around we have listed programs from networks like Lifetime and MTV that we normally wouldn't provide. But, in this time of woe, any port in the storm may suffice.
Take a deep breath and enjoy.

What happened to 24?
And there is only one episode of House left? The post-SB?

No, there is one episode of House in January, then the Super Bowl episode, then one more after that.
And 24 has been delayed, that happened months ago.
And what about Greek? Any word on that coming back?

24 only completed eight or nine episodes before the strike. That was the first show put on hold once that happened! They're not going to air a show that takes place in 24 hours with only 8 or 9 episodes in the can! Geez, that's old news! Where's KITCHEN NIGHTMARES? I thought that was given an additional episode order too? I'm happy but ticked about BIG SHOTS. It was cancelled, so I deleted the last two episodes from the DVR thinking it was pointless to watch and not have the final five episodes to air. Thanks for bringing it back, but curse you at the same time, ABC!

Me again. I notice thereare several CW shows missing from the list. What's up with that? I read EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS actually had completed scripts for an entire season. But what about SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL? ALIENS IN AMERICA? BEAUTY AND THE GEEK?

SMALLVILLE had 16 eps in the can, so 6 left? And SUPERNATURAL has 4 left. Apparently the PTB at the CW haven't decided when to air them since their not releasing any actual dates, but the speculation is the end of Jan. (hopefully)

And apparently people are watching WOMENS MURDER CLUB. It's usually number one in its time slot on Friday, routinely beating MOONLIGHT (although the hot vamp did regain his crown a couple weeks ago!). If those women murder the lovely Alex O'Loughlin's show, there will be heck to pay!

Ok. That's weird. I swear it wasn't there when I posted. It didn't even come up on a Find.

I think the strike was a blessing to NEW AMSTERDAM. After heavy summer hype for the fall, Fox abruptly pulled it from the schedule. I bet if there hadn't been a strike, it would have never seen the light of day unless if maybe SciFi picked it up.

I'm still amazed that Sarah Conner Chronicles is going to be on the screen. Even tho it's on my dvr list, I think it looks like a giant pile of bleh. If it wasn't for the writers strike, I don't think I'd give it more than 3 weeks before being pulled.
