There are few things in life more satisfying than when something goes wrong during a live broadcast. I mean, sure there are weddings and births and all that crap, but those things happen all the time. Seeing broadcasters -- especially anchormen, what with their sensible hair and their authoritative voices -- lose their cool is as rare and special as seeing Brigadoon (the magical Scottish town, not the boring Broadway musical).Breitbart.tv has posted what might be one of the best on-air bust-ups of all time: a minivan crashing into the studio of Chicago's ABC affiliate, WLS, during a live broadcast. The video after the jump...
The best part about this video is anchorman Ravi Baichwal's eyes when he hears the crash. I know it's bad journalism to project what a person might be thinking, but, as Stephen Glass would say: what the hell... here are the top 5 thoughts I think the anchorman is thinking right at the moment his eyes go wide:
1) That's it! A terrorist is attacking the station and I'm going to die. I'm going to die in Chicago. Not at a network, but at an affiliate! My father was right, I'm not good enough to make the national broadcast. I should have gone into the family pet-food business. Maybe if I had, he wouldn't have sold it to the Chinese. Hey, I wonder whatever happened to that...
2) This might be the only chance that I have to tell Michelle that I love her!
3) I'm a newsman... I should think of something incredibly witty and apt and maybe, if this is the last thing I ever say on the air, something that will resonate with viewers for generations, like when Walter Cronkite broke the news of Kennedy's death. Oh, I know: Hoooah!
4) If I die, they better devote the entire hour for my tribute show, not just one segment like they did when whatsisname, the fat weather guy, died last year. I mean, I'm an anchor, not some moron that puts happy faces on suns. I graduated with a BA in communications from Rowan University, for God's sake; I'm a professional!
5) Well, this is it. This is my big moment. You know, it's funny, last night I wrote in my Fantasy Journal, which I keep in the deepest part of my Hope Chest: Dear Mr. Henshaw, I've been in Chicago for a few years now and I'm starting to come to the conclusion that it's not really gonna "happen" for me. I'm happy and all, and I get all the free cruellers I can eat down at Morty's Bakery, but being famous -- I mean, really famous -- I think that's out of the realm of possibility. I guess all I can hope for now is for something "wacky" to happen at the studio and for a clip of it to make it to the internet where all sorts of snarky idiots can comment on it. If that happens, I'll be happy. I guess wishes do come true!

Okay, everybody who is commenting on my fellow Canadian Ravi Baichwal's stunned reaction as the car bursts though the studio wall, think of how you'd react if you were sitting around, minding your own business working at your job and suddenly a car smashed through the glass wall of your place of employment. I bet you'd (we'd) be just a touch stunned, but in most of your (our) cases the reaction would go on longer and would probably involve the sudden evacuation of bodily fluids or going number 2 in your (our) pants.

See, this is why I'm in print news. I would not have been able to refrain from a string of expletives much worse than "hoah!" as a car came hurtling through a window, seemingly at me. You've got to respect TV news anchors, if for no other reason than that.
