Oh, Marc St. James, how are you so fabulous? Do your multiple layers of plaid infuse you with superstar powers? Does hanging around all the beautiful people of Ugly Betty automatically make you awesome by association? Ah, the real fabulous answer most likely lies in the fact that fabulous Marc is portrayed by the fabulous actor, Michael Urie. It's tough to shine on-screen when one's partner is often the ultra-glamorous superstar Vanessa L. Williams, but Urie manages to hold his own just fine. Dare I say it, he even manages to outshine her every once in a while. I guess the folks at TLC saw something in him too, because he will soon be on the channel as the host of their new reality show, Miss America: Reality Check (premiering January).
It doesn't look like Urie has had much experience on television (fun fact: he has a credit on MTV's now defunct, almost soft porn series Undressed), but he has done plenty of theater. He has performed in multiple productions throughout his time studying at Juilliard and still participates in on-stage shows today, despite working hard on Ugly Betty.
When it comes to his personal life, Urie seems to be a bit of an enigma, keeping his sexual orientation and background as hush-hush as possible. That's a tough thing to maintain these days, so bravo, Mr. Urie. It's more fun that way anyway, isn't it?

I first saw him in the movie "WTC View" and was really impressed--it's adapted from a stage play and his character is onstage/screen almost the entire film--so different from Marc and really showing a variety of moods and emotions, all believable.
