Cane: Hurricane

Looters invade the Duque home
(S01E11) There was a double episode of Cane last night. I suppose that was because Cane was not on last week. But whatever the reason, I just wanted to point out before I start talking about "Hurricane" that I have reviewed both episodes. I linked to the review of "The Perfect Son" at the end of this post.

Firstly, why did the people in the convenience store start panicking and rushing out like that? I rewound that dialogue a few times to see what Alex said right before the people went nuts. He just told his son to be calm. So, was the uproar because that thug had a recognizable gang tattoo? Or did people start panicking because of something with hurricane?

Alex waits out the hurricaneLet's start with the main story this episode. As you can see from the title, there's a big storm so all the characters are affected by that. Alex and Frank go to their parents' house to check on things and they get held up by looters. But these aren't just any looters; these are hardcore gang looters. In fact, Alex (the tough guy that he is) already scolded one of them in the convenience store for cutting in line.

At the Duque house, the looters "go shopping" taking wallets, watches, and raiding the family's safe. I thought Alex tasering that thug was awesome. Also, the two brothers overpowering the thugs at the end was great. But I guess you saw that one coming.

I was glad that the brothers got into the action a little. I was waiting for something better than just Alex's lame attempts at manipulating the youngLooter threatens Frank thug. It reminded me of last episode when Alex talked the two island natives out of trying to mug him, Ramon and his nephews. I don't like Alex as the Jedi master.

There were three side-stories last night as well: Santo and Artie, Isabel and the sleazy artist, and Henry and Terry. The first was good, a nice stable story to balance what was going on with Alex and Frank at the house. Santo is one of the more endearing characters on the show and his telling Artie his story (with the "altered" ending) was terrific.

When is Isabel going to sleep with the sleazy artist? Or is she going to sleep with the sleazy artist? I feel like they are building something here that will not come to fruition in any satisfying way.

Isabel's last few lines to Hudson were supposed to be steamy but rang false and could have been better delivered by Paola Turbay. Was that supposed to show this guy that she is sexually satisfied? That she's not a prissy soccer mom? I kind of understand what they were trying to do but it just didn't work. What do you think of this storyline?

And finally there's Henry and Terry. I'm not sure if I like them together. I liked the idea when Henry first started pursuing her. He's the Miami party boy and she's the soulful rum blender. He was learning a valuable lesson about his relationships with women and she was learning to loosen up. But last night, the relationship just felt weird. All of a sudden she's married, then all of a sudden she's divorced. She sees Henry help a little dog in the hurricane and feels endeared to him. I just don't know about this.

I must give one compliment before I finish with this episode. Cane has a tendency to leave characters out of episodes with no explanations. I thought that the writers were going to do that tonight with both the Duque parents and Alex's other children. However, both absences were adequately explained. Amalia and Pancho were in New York and Jaime and Katie were looking at colleges.

Here's my review of "The Perfect Son" which aired last night right after "Hurricane."

Do you like Henry and Terry together?
