(S04E04) Insert obnoxious, exaggerated yawn here. Honestly, I'm still a little bored with the contestants this season, but at least I was impressed with a few more outfits from this episode. The designers were challenged to take old, outdated trends and rework them to fit in today's world. They were then given the additional challenge of working in teams of three to create collections incorporating each of their own selected trends. The end results weren't exciting as they could have been, but there were a few pieces that stood out.The special guest judge was DKNY's Donna Karan. I was really amused by her facial expressions. Every time she doled out some harsh criticism with a stone flash, she'd immediately flash a really cheesy grin.
Team Christian (with Jack and Kit): They took on pleather, fringe, and zoot suits. I was madly in love with Kit's creation. The silhouette was stunning and, if I had a better body, I would probably wear something like that every day. However, I felt as though the collection relied too much on the pinstripe for cohesion and didn't reflect their trends quite enough. The zoot suit aspect was overwhelming and the pleather and fringe were barely there, if at all.
Team Ricky [ALMOST AUF'D] (with Victorya and Elisa): They took on underwear as outerwear, cut-outs, and neon. Oh, my word. I was so frustrated with this team. First of all, I can understand where Victorya was coming from, saying that Ricky wasn't strong enough as a leader. He definitely lacked the confidence to steer his team in the right direction. That said, Victorya was being a bitch. I mean, there is no other way to put it. I think she wanted to run the team but didn't want to risk getting Auf'd by taking the role as leaders. Leaders of losing teams are pretty much always the ones to go home. In a way, it was a smart thing to do, but it also created some unnecessary conflict that resulted in a less-than-wonderful collection.
Team Jillian (with Rami and Kevin): [WINNERS] They took on overalls, poodle skirts, and 70s flare. Way to go, Jillian! I wouldn't be caught dead in any of those outfits, but, I must admit, they looked like something off a modern runway. Everything was beautifully constructed and I can see why the judges were impressed.
Team Chris [AUF'D] (with Steve and Sweet P): They took on baggy sweaters, shoulder pads, and dancewear. I didn't really see the baggy sweaters or the dancewear. The only things represented were the shoulder pads, and those were in the form of Chris' sad-looking jacket. This was just unfortunate all around. Not only were the designs weak, but the only thing holding the pieces together was a similar color palette. I don't know what Donna Karan was thinking, saying that Sweet P's dress was lovely. Sweet P also had the funniest moment of the episode...
Heidi, asking who should be Auf'd: Sweet P?
Sweet P: Can I do eeny-meeny-minie-mo?
Heidi: SWEET P.
Sweet P: Aahhhh!
Also, on Tuesday at 10/9c, The Real Housewives of Orange County, the Bravo show with the scariest cougars in the world, will feature a very special Project Runway guest. I believe Austin Scarlett from Season 1 is assisting one of the big-boobed bimbos with a dress.

Why is Elisa even in the poll? Ricky should've taken his crying hats home.

Ricky definitely should have gone home, after already being in the bottom two, rather than Chris, who had always been in the middle pack. Chris deserved another chance over Ricky, who is just there to add drama (do we remember Season 2 finalist Santino?) I mean, come on... he may be good in his chosen field, but is clearly in over his head!

I guess just looking at the work on this challenge, I would have sent home Chris. But looking at their body of work so far, I would have sent home Ricky. I'm not sure how much they consider the previous challenges at this point.
I also agree that none of the contestants bowl me over. In fairness, I tried to think if I had any favorites this early on in previous seasons. And, yes, I did: Austin Scarlett (for that stunning corn dress), Daniel Franco (seemed like a nice guy) and Keith (I was SO bummed when he was thrown off!).
However, I admit that Rami has been interesting since the beginning. Christian is certainly memorable, though not always in a good way. And this episode made me notice Jillian, even before she won. It just goes to show how much editing shapes your perception of "reality." I don't think Jillian had been given any screen time before. And since we see so many "talking heads" of Christian, my bet is that he makes it pretty far, probably to the finals.
