I have a lot of problems with last night's season/fall finale of Heroes, most of which have already been discussed in Jason's review, in the comments section and elsewhere in the blogosphere. Why didn't Hiro freeze time again when he got into the vault with Adam? Why didn't Peter just stop time when Nathan was shot? Why was Nathan's press conference indoors when he was about to announce he could fly? What's the sense in killing Nathan and not Matt and Peter, when they can just show the world their powers? Why can't Hiro just go back in time to prevent Nathan from being killed, or why don't they just use Claire's blood (or Peter's?) to save him? And on and on and on it goes. I guess that's the problem of introducing time travel and immortality to a story. Anything can happen so it all seems ridiculous. Still, the show is a blast and I'll be back for the third volume.
Creator Tim Kring has an interview over at TVGuide.com where he talks about the finale. I won't tell you everything he has to say (he doesn't give any hints as to what the fates of Nathan and Niki are), but I would guess that the most interesting news is that the strike might actually help the show in a (small) way. Since the filming has been pushed back, Zachary Quinto (Syler) will probably be done filming Star Trek and be available for Heroes full-time again.

I don't believe that actually helps the show at all. Sylar (Zachary Quinto) returning full-time that is. I believe it was a huge cop-out that he survived at the end of Volume One anyway. I personally don't care for the character myself.

What character do you like? You can't say he isn't one of the most interesting characters on the show?

Actually he is very cliche at this point. He was fine for a first season villan, but we should have another great menace by now, don't you agree? What have we gained in the way of character development for Sylar this season? None.

Really? Not sure I'll be back for Season 2.5.
Why was Primatech's most secure installation -- home the world's deadliest virus guarded by six rent-a-cops in a vault that housed garage sale knick-knacks? A virus stored at room tempurature in a test tube with a rubber stopper? The CDC this ain't, I guess!
And why didn't Peter just walk through the vault?
And Sylar? He's nothing more than a moustache-twirling villian any more. He's so close to saying "Mwahahahaha! You fools!!"
And why didn't Nathan, oh I don't know... FLY to the podium to give his speech? "Hey, guess what? Super powers!"
And Elle, a former badass, is now all sensitive and sweet?
I give the finale a giant "WTF?!"

why couldn't hiro go back in time to save nathan? same reason he couldn't go back in time to save that girl (charlie??) in season 1. it's some arbitrary restriction they've placed on him.
why couldn't claire's blood save nathan? who says it still can't?

To be fair, I'm not sure Hiro's time travel restriction is really arbitrary. As much as he wants to save people, he is also concerned about breaking history and/or the space-time continuum. Fictional space-time often seems to have safety valves that prevent historical breakage. You can learn from the past, but you can only change the future. Makes sense to me.
On another positive note, I like Elle's development of a character. She's still creepy as heck, but she might actually redeem herself. And if she turns on Bob... Woah. That would rock.
And the show might redeem itself overall in Volume 3. Should be interesting, one way or another...

And another abuse of an interesting villain. Adam's little
trapped-for-eternity thing is just like Linderman's pointless and anticlimactic death last season. Just when someone starts to look like an actual supervillain on this show, they get cut down. Don't get me wrong, Sylar
was cool at the start of last season because he was so mysterious and hard to understand. Now that he's just some guy who wants to be special, he's completely annoying. Bring back the baseball cap and trench coat, Kring!

Sylar sucks.
His act is old. The writing since the first set of season 1 episodes has gotten worse and worse.
But seriously, Sylar needs to die

I hate Sylar too. There's a fine line between being a dick and a villain.
Sylar, he acts like a dick seriously it's annoying. He is not being a villian he is just being a jerk.

A few points:
1. It's obvious that the writing quality has gone down a bit, with some writers leaving to run their own shows. This also happened with Alias (and Lost to a lesser extent).
2. What once was a daring story telling device in killing off a major character has now become cliche'. It's almost as bad as knowing that your favorite characters would never die (i.e. Star Trek). You could just tell Nathan was going to die from the dialog leading up to it. Killing some of these characters for dramatic effect, (linderman) made others (nathan, Niki) suffer. Why does there have have to be a yearly quota of characters killed off? You can write a sense of danger into a climax without having to kill a character off every time.
3. I don't know what I'm more disappointed in, the introduction of the new, less compelling characters or the fact that Kring has actually placated the viewers and tweaked the show to fit their tastes! Does Kring have the vision to take this show in a particular direction or is it going to be the flavor of the week?
4. I am disappointed that Sylar got his powers back so soon. They could have really explored and developed Sylar as a character struggling to get his powers back. He kills because he believed others weren't worthy, yet when he lost his powers, there was never any exploration or introspection into whether he was worthy or not to have these powers.
5. Peter is too naive. I never really bought his character being so gullible after he was trained by the invisible man that he would just follow Adam blindly. He couldn't put two and two together when Hiro, the guy who really sold him on being a hero in the first place with the cheerleader rescue mission, was trying to stop Adam??? It seems that Peter was written as early peter, before he got in touch with Hiro and the Invisible man. I thought he had grown a little bit. I guess he did at the end, but it was too quick and easy.
I still like this show, but I am very hesitant to get really invested in this show like I have with Lost and Battlestar.

I wish I knew how to replie to a comment. But I guess I will just say it the old fashion way. I have to agree with DK. I would like to have seen more of Linderman. He would have been a nice bad guy. Sylar is good and all but really why does there have to be only one bad guy. In comics or other shos with bad guys. The bad guys out number the good by far. So why can't Heroes be the same way.
I for one hope Adam does get out. I kind of liked him as a bad guy. Plus He may have killed some people but who is to say He is worse then Hiro. Just look at what Hiro did.
Hiro takes Adams girl then leaves her. Then He even puts Adam under Ground. So Hiro is some what bad also. This also works for the other characters too.
Plus I hate how this episode you could tell what was going to happen. Things like the Virues does not get out. I for one would have liked it to get out this way it would have allowed for different story plots. So I hope the next season has more I never saw that coming moments.

Or you could just come to terms that the episode aired yesterday and just get the hell over it. Spoilers are for things that haven't yet aired. We should gave to censor our comments because you're behind on your TiVo.

I didn't return after the season 1 finale showed that the writers have no clue what they are doing. I will not return in season 3.

Fully valid comments. Time travel is such a massive power...it could be used to do anything basically.
Lots and lots of holes in the show...just goes to show that it is sloppily written and rather mediocre, but still enjoyable (I'm just watching it for Hiro Nakamura...and Kristen Bell).

glad Nikki appears to be dead. The sooner her son dies the better. Peter and Hiro need to die too so the show can lose this crap with time freezing/jumping/undying.
Nathan is the only morally complex character but he was regulated to third tier in this really bad volume 2. For the sake of the actor, either give him more or let Pasdar move on.
Sylar is a boring villain. I want villains for sure but I don't want unkillable heroes or villains. It's boring. And Sylar is boring. He keeps getting caught and surviving but in lame ways. Again Mohinder could have stabbed him with an injection of air - Sylar put down the gun while a man he was threatening jabbed a needle in him? seriously for that alone Sylar deserved death.
Why did Peter have to rip the door open when he could have phased through the door, found the virus and nuked it. Adam was unneeded for that. He could have gotten rid of the virus and then simply got with Adam and Hiro to go back in time. Poof, see the past, problem solved, kill the so-so villain.
The show has been wretched this season. They better kill of West and that stupid crying chick soon.
